There are a lot of fun “National Days” this month, and my November writing prompts are a great way to celebrate and inspire your kids in their writing!
Wow! 11 months of writing prompts.
If you started with us right at the beginning of the year, I’m sure you’re experiencing the joy of seeing your child’s literary skills improve each month (and kudos to you – that’s a long time to stick with this!).
I’m sure your child has also begun to show a preference for certain writing prompts.
I think the food-themed writing prompts are always a lot of fun, but the research ones are where the substance is!
The research writing prompts open up a world of research, analysis, and decision-making. It’s never easy to sieve through all the information found to pick a handful of facts to share. That’s where you will find your child sharpening skills that will help as those high school years draw near.
If this is your first time on my site, welcome! It’s not too late to download your child’s first writing prompt pack. Sure it’s November, but there’s no better time to start than now!
The best part is none of the writing prompts are year specific. The days featured will fall on the same day this year, next year, and 5 years down the line, so your set of writing prompts will never age out. Use them for years to come, with multiple kids in your homeschool!
Using Writing Prompts in Your Homeschool
The use of writing prompts is an easy, great way to simply get your kids in the habit of writing everyday and help them work through the writing process. Sometimes it’s hard to think of topics to write about; with my monthly National Days Writing Prompts, you’ll never have that problem!
You can certainly use these in addition to your regular English or writing homeschool curriculum.
Some of the November writing prompts could be used as a more comprehensive tool in your homeschool. For example, November 6th is National Saxophone Day. The writing prompt for this day encourages kids to research the origins of their favorite instrument (or a composer who plays that instrument), and write an essay.
This may take a bit more time to work on and lead you down some interesting rabbit trails of learning! The research-based prompts are wonderful to use to allow your kids to practice their research skills and the basics of writing these types of essays.
However, you have total flexibility with how “strict” you want to be in grading or making corrections to your child’s writing. For the creative writing prompts in particular, it can be a great exercise to allow your kids to freely write without worrying about not writing “correctly”. You might be amazed at what they can produce!
