These May writing prompts will help you add creative writing to your homeschool day, and will encourage your kids’ research and writing. Just print and go! Enjoy a new writing prompt for each “National Day” in May!

Creative writing and literacy can never be separated.

Reading and writing are two life skills every child should be given the opportunity to learn. The more a child reads, the easier words flow from his pencil to the paper.

At times, all a child needs is a little encouragement in the right direction, which my monthly writing prompts seek to fuel.

With a writing prompt for each day of the month of May, a child is not overwhelmed to think of a topic to write, nor is he lost at how to start.

These May writing prompts will help you add creative writing to your homeschool day, and will encourage your kids’ research and writing. Just print and go! Enjoy a new writing prompt for each “National Day” in May!

Each of my daily May writing prompts introduces the child to a National Day or Celebratory Day and shares a bite-sized introduction to why the day is celebrated. A themed writing prompt follows this and is the best way to help get those creative juices flowing.

A Peek Into the May Writing Prompts

I’m excited about this month’s prompts for several reasons!

One reason is the opportunity for your child to write their own limericks. The second is incorporating research-based writing to help develop an additional learning skill.

Research-based writing helps a child learn to look up facts, sieve through all the information gathered, and use only what they deem necessary while finding a creative way to present all this information in a concise, informative, but exciting way to their reader.

While this may sound challenging, you will see how comfortable your child is with this month’s prompts, especially if they’ve been faithful to work on the prompts from prior months.

(And no, your child does not need to finish all four months before starting the May writing prompts).

The goal is to make creative writing come naturally to your child.

And with this activity, we’re well on our way!
