We’re 27 weeks into our series of praying for our homeschools – I’m so thankful you are joining me! You can learn more about the series here. We’ll pray about a new area of our homeschool journey each week and dig into God’s Word with daily devotional reflections.

A while back, my husband and I were in a Bible study class, and one of the discussion questions was: When was the last time you realized someone was watching you? And how did you react when you found out?

People’s reactions definitely depended on what they were doing at the time! That led us into a conversation about integrity—how we act when no one’s watching, and whether our actions consistently line up with our biblical values.

How can we model integrity in our homeschool? In Week 27 of the Homeschool Prayer Challenge, we’re diving into what it means to live with integrity as Christian homeschool moms. From modeling the values we teach, to being honest in our records and relationships, this week's devotion encourages us to reflect Christ in every part of our daily lives. Let’s grow in our walk with God and ask Him to help us live authentically—especially when no one is watching.

Obviously, none of us do this perfectly. But it’s something we should be mindful of, especially as homeschooling parents.

Our kids are always watching. They’re learning from us constantly—how we make decisions, handle conflict, and go about everyday life.

When we live with integrity, we become the kind of parents our children will respect, trust, and want to learn from.

Four Ways to Practice Integrity in Homeschooling

Here are four ways we can model integrity in our homeschooling lives:

1. Model what we teach.

We pour so much into teaching our kids about character, values, and good behavior. But are we consistently modeling those same things?

For example, I’m definitely guilty of teaching about nutrition and healthy habits, while not always practicing them myself. Or telling my kids not to gossip, but later discussing someone behind their back.

Or possibly worse: telling my kids to have a daily quiet time with the Lord, when I’m not prioritizing one myself.

Our kids need to see us living out the lessons we’re teaching. Strive to be the person you want them to become.

2. Be truthful and honest.

In our homeschool, we’re required to log hours of instruction. No one is constantly checking in on me—but it’s still a requirement, so I want to be faithful in doing it with integrity.

This goes for transcripts, grade reports, and even little things like how much music practice actually happened that week.

Living with integrity means keeping promises to our kids, doing what we say we’ll do, and being honest in all things—even when no one else will know.

3. Apologize when we mess up.

When we make a mistake—and we all do—we need to be humble and admit it.

Don’t miss the opportunity to model the gospel to your children. Let them see that we are all sinners in need of a Savior, and that forgiveness is available through Jesus.

When we own our mistakes, we release guilt and receive grace. That’s a powerful message to teach our kids.

4. Talk to your kids about integrity.

One of the greatest blessings of homeschooling is the time we have for meaningful conversations. Talk to your kids about what integrity means. Ask them who they know that models it well.

Discuss why integrity matters and where true moral truth comes from—God and His Word.

Help your kids recognize that truth is not relative, and teach them how to live according to God’s standards, even when the world tells them otherwise.

Jesus: Our Perfect Example of Integrity

Jesus is the ultimate model of integrity. He never compromised, never lied, never acted for the approval of man—only for the glory of God.

As Christian homeschoolers, we should look to Jesus as our guide. The good news is that we’re not doing this in our own strength—the Holy Spirit empowers us to live with integrity when we abide in Christ.

Let’s make that our focus this week: that the integrity of our homeschool life would flow from our walk with Jesus and pour out into everything we say and do.

A Prayer for This Week

Heavenly Father,

I often have so many little eyes on me during the day, learning from my choices, words, and actions, and keeping me accountable. So often I forget though, that you are with me even when I’m alone. You know my thoughts and my intentions, and I’m so sorry for all the times they have not been worthy of You. Thank you for revealing your instructions to me through your Word; give me the strength I need to follow them and live my life with integrity.

Guide me during the time I spend with you each day, that I may learn to lean on and trust You more and not desire to go my own way. Fill me with the truth of Your Word, with thoughts that are noble and pure, that it may overflow from my heart into my homeschool. I desire to live a life of integrity in my home, and teach my kids to do the same.

Above all, thank you for sending Jesus to be the perfect example for us of how to live a life of integrity. Give us a desire to be faithful like Christ, and let Him be glorified as we live for You.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen
