We’re 40 weeks into our series of praying for our homeschools – I’m so thankful you are joining me! You can learn more about the series here. We’ll pray about a new area of our homeschool journey each week and dig into God’s Word with daily devotional reflections.
It’s hard to believe we’ve made it all the way to Week 40 of praying for our homeschools! What a gift it has been to walk through this journey of lifting up our families and our daily rhythms to the Lord. My prayer is that this challenge continues to encourage you and helps you stay intentional about weaving prayer into the everyday moments of homeschooling.
This week, we’re focusing on something that has been a personal struggle for me: being fully present.

The Struggle to Be Present
Does anyone else find it difficult to stay present during the homeschool day? I know I do. Some days, the moment we sit down to begin lessons, everything seems to happen at once—every child needs help at the same time, the dog wants to go outside, my phone lights up with notifications, and I suddenly remember I haven’t even thought about what’s for dinner.
It feels like my mind is constantly being pulled in a million directions. And if I’m honest, it’s easier to think ahead or stress about what still needs to be done than it is to focus on the child sitting in front of me right now.
But here’s the truth: I don’t want to miss the beauty of this season because I’m distracted. I don’t want to look back later and realize I missed out on the little blessings God placed in my day because my attention was elsewhere.
A Sobering Reminder from James
The verse we’re focusing on this week is James 4:14:
“Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”
At first glance, these words might feel heavy, but they carry such a powerful reminder. Our lives are fleeting. We don’t know what tomorrow will bring, and every moment we have is a gift.
How often do we rush through the day, treating the present like just a stepping stone to the future? How often do we forget that the here and now is the place where God is working—in our hearts, in our children, and in our families?
Each Moment Is a Gift
Being present doesn’t mean life will suddenly slow down or distractions will disappear. But it does mean we can choose to ask God for the grace to focus on what matters most: loving Him and loving the people right in front of us.
As homeschool moms, it’s tempting to believe that multitasking is the only way to survive. But the truth is, we’re not called to do everything at once. And that’s okay. We’re called to be faithful in the moment we’re in.
This week, let’s pray for God to reveal the distractions in our lives and give us the strength to set them aside so we can focus on the blessings right in front of us.
A Prayer for This Week
Heavenly Father,
This week, help me to be present in our homeschool. Help me to be devoted to my kids in love, being giving of my time without being distracted. There are so many things that tug at my attention each day, and I don’t want to miss your gift of precious moments to the idol of multitasking.
Allow me to see the distractions in my life, and lay them down so I can fully focus on what’s important. Give me contentment in my current situations. May I be engaged and intentional in each moment, instead of worrying about the past or waiting for what’s to come. Guide my thoughts, words, and steps this week, and help me to slow down and realize Your presence in my life.
Thank you for the blessing of each moment, which I only have by your grace and love. Let me not take them for granted this week.
In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen
Moving Forward This Week
As we enter this new week, let’s ask God to help us stay fully present. Let’s open our eyes to the little blessings He places in front of us—a giggle during a lesson, a sweet conversation, or even the messy, chaotic moments of homeschooling. These are the places where His love shines through.
