“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” ~ Philippians 4:6

Homeschool prayer – do you make this a habit?

There is a quote by Martin Luther I heard recently that has been on my mind the past few weeks. He said, “I have so much business to do today, that I shall not be able to get through it with less than three hours’ prayer.” His logic was that the more he had to do, the more he needed to pray.

Now, wait a minute. Three hours in prayer? I know what you’re thinking. I’m a mom (a homeschool mom at that!) – I’m lucky if I get 10 minutes of peace and quiet any day of the week!

Believe me, I’m right there with you. For a long time now, I have heard from women I love and respect about the importance of carving out a quiet time for prayer each day, and making intentional bible study and prayer a habit. It seems so easy for everyone else – they don’t have as many responsibilities as me, right? The excuses come, and I while I do read my Bible and talk to God in moments throughout the day, if I’m being honest…

…it has fallen from the top of my priority list.

God will understand that I’m busy, right? I have four kids! I’m working from home while homeschooling and keeping up with our home! Surely, what I can manage is enough.

Martin Luther’s logic is certainly backwards from what typically happens, in my life at least. The busier I am, the less time I tend to spend in God’s Word.

Now, I am not saying that we do not have grace for periods we go through like this. But I truly believe that we were created to have a relationship with our Creator, and He wants our whole hearts. He wants us to draw nearer to Him, and become more like Christ, on our homeschool journey.

But how can we do that if we don’t draw near to him daily in the privilege of prayer? That’s the basic idea behind this homeschool prayer challenge I hope you will join me on this year.

Take the homeschool prayer challenge and be more intentional about digging into scripture, praying intentionally, and learn how God wants to draw you nearer to him through your homeschool this year.

I think the quote from Martin Luther really speaks to my excuses because truthfully, the busier we are, the more important it becomes to spend intentional time cultivating our relationship with our Savior.

As I probably should have done much earlier, my goal is to commit to prayer this year, specifically focusing on praying for our homeschool. Not just praying short prayers throughout the day – nothing wrong with that, and we should be in prayer continually, but – I want to be more intentional about digging into scripture each week, praying intentionally daily, and learning how God wants to draw us nearer to him through our homeschool this year.

Why should we pray for our homeschools?

Homeschooling mom, you know that homeschooling is very time consuming. And something that takes up such a substantial part of our time and energy should be covered in prayer.

Prayer is a privilege and so incredibly valuable because it helps us in our daily walks. You can bet my kids and husband can tell when it has been a while that I have been in the Word; my attitude, my thoughts, my actions certainly reflect more of me and less of Jesus.

Before the perfect lesson plan, the perfect curriculum or perfect schedule, prayer is the most important foundation we can build our homeschool on.

  • Prayer helps us grow in our relationship with God and align our steps (and our homeschooling!) with His will.
  • The more time we spend with the Lord, the more we will reflect Christ to our kids throughout the day.
  • Prayer helps us keep our priorities straight and Christ-centered.
  • We pray because Jesus teaches us that prayer is important, and He is the example we should follow!
  • We pray because as moms, we can and should intercede for our children through prayer.

What can I expect from this homeschool prayer challenge?

I need accountability in this area as well, and I hope you will join me in this homeschool prayer challenge!

Each week, you’ll get an email from me with a topic we’ll focus on in prayer that week. You’ll get a scripture reference to pray over, and a homeschool prayer to pray and print out if you’d like.

(Some weeks I am going to try to put together an aligning bible study printable for that week you can use to help guide you and remind you to pray each day. So you might see those sprinkled in as well!)

Super easy. No pressure. Just gentle reminders and accountability for all of us.

I do NOT want this to become just one more thing to tick off your to-do list. My desire is that you and I will make a habit of praying for our homeschools, and that it will translate to other areas of our lives as well.

It’s not going to be hard. But I am encouraging you (and me!) to carve out a little bit of time each day for intentional prayer. It’s going to be worth it.

What do I need to prepare?

Nothing at all! Simply sign up below so you can start receiving the emails each week and your printable to guide you in prayer.

If you want to be super-organized, you might have a binder on hand to store your weekly prayer printables.

Will you join me in intentional homeschool prayer this year?

Prayer is vital to our Christian walk, yet it’s so easy to lose sight of this privilege and not take it seriously (or think that it makes any difference).

How transforming will this next year be as we intentionally spend time praying for our homeschools each week? I can’t wait to find out!

I would love for you to commit to this with me. Simply sign up below and you’re all set (start anytime of the year…like right now!).

You’ll also be signed up for the Blessed Homeschool Newsletter and receive my FREE Scripture Memory Cards (designed to complement the prayer challenge) as a bonus.

If we have to stop and pray, it is no more hindrance than when the rider has to stop at the farrier’s to have his horse’s shoe fastened; for if he went on without attending to that it may be that ere long he would come to a stop of a far more serious kind.
C.H. Spurgeon

Let our homeschools be an act of worship this year. Let us experience God’s goodness and grow closer in our walk with Him by making an intentional effort to pray.

Have a blessed week, and I look forward to “meeting” you in your inbox!

  1. I was literally just sitting staring at my messy attempt at a weekly schedule trying to figure out how the heck I’m going to juggle starting homeschool (it’s my first year doing this so I am learning as I go), managing an infant, and starting up my commission work again, all while not letting the home suffer too much. Then I took a break to check my email and this was in it.
This was God sending me a message if I’ve ever seen it, lol.

    1. Kaleigh, I understand all too well. You’ve got this, and He will make a way!! It will not always look like we want it to, or how we think it should look (i.e. perfectly ordered home, etc.), but continue to lean on the Lord and He will use your faithfulness to accomplish His good and perfect will!

Praying for you now and hope you have a wonderful first year of homeschooling!
