Everyone has different reasons that lead us to homeschool.  For me personally, I know it is not by accident that I am homeschooling my kids.  The string of events that brought us here was nothing I ever could have imagined myself. Instead, it was a gentle leading by our Heavenly Father, and He has continued to use our homeschool journey to draw me nearer to Him.

Last year, I had been feeling a tug in my heart to spend more intentional time praying for our homeschool.  Up until that point, it had been all too easy to make decisions based on what I wanted to do, or what I felt was right for our homeschool journey. But what about God’s opinion? If I was being honest, I wasn’t taking nearly enough time to find out.

And so I reached out to the readers who had subscribed to my email list, and invited them to join me in a homeschool prayer challenge.

Prayer is vital to our Christian walk, yet it’s so easy to lose sight of this privilege and not take it seriously (or think that it makes any difference).

I was a little hesitant to put the challenge out there, if I’m being honest. I wasn’t sure I could commit to an entire year of prayer. I worried about failing. I worried whether or not I would be able to find the words to pray, worried about others reading my prayers (I don’t even like to pray in front of others, typically – I’m very introverted!). The list goes on.

But that’s where the enemy wants to keep us, right?  In that state of worry and inaction?

So, even with hesitation, I sent that first email.

I’m so thankful for everyone who joined in on the prayer challenge (and continues to join in!). While I know that all of our journeys have their ups and downs even when we are diligent in prayer, my desire from the beginning is that we all grow closer in our walks with the Lord through this calling, learn to pray continually, and keep God at the center of our homeschools.

More now than ever, I know that we were created to have a relationship with our Creator, and He wants our whole hearts. He wants to carry out His will in us and through us.  But how can we align our homeschools to God’s will if we don’t draw near to him daily in the privilege of prayer and allow Him to lead us?

Weekly Prayer Journal and Devotional

What started as an email series inspired this new devotional for homeschool moms, to help us stay diligent in prayer and Bible study in the midst of our busy days.

Keeping God at the Center: A 52-Week Devotional for the Homeschooling Family is a convenient, full-year prayer-style devotional resource I hope you will love!

Please note: If you are participating in the prayer challenge, this journal is not a requirement.  However, this resource brings everything together in one package each week as you pray for your homeschool, giving you journal and reflection prompts, space to record prayers, and a specific prayer to pray for your homeschool that week.

If you previously participated in the challenge, the prayers will not be new to you; but you might enjoy this journal as a way to encourage you to stay committed to keeping God at the center of your homeschool each week.

How transforming will this next year be as we intentionally spend time praying for our homeschools each week? I can’t wait to find out what this year holds!
