We’re 44 weeks into our series of praying for our homeschools – I’m so thankful you are joining me! You can learn more about the series here. We’ll pray about a new area of our homeschool journey each week and dig into God’s Word with daily devotional reflections.
I used to struggle so much with the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
I never had a clear answer. There were so many things I loved to do, and the idea of choosing just one path felt limiting. More than that, I feared making the wrong choice—what if I picked something and later realized I’d missed the mark entirely?
That uncertainty carried into college. I switched majors three times, adding an extra year before finally finishing my degree. The mindset I grew up with was simple: work hard, go to college, and find a stable career you’ll keep for life.
But here I am, years later, not even working in the field of my degree. My degree was in teaching, and while that sounds like a perfect fit for a homeschool mom, I’d actually argue it didn’t fully prepare me for this kind of teaching. The job that led me away from classroom teaching—and into what I do now—was something completely different from what I ever imagined.
And yet, God knew exactly what He was doing.

If I could go back and tell my younger self one thing, it would be this: you don’t have to have it all figured out. God’s plan for your life—and for your children’s lives—is so much bigger, more creative, and more beautiful than anything you could map out on your own.
Trusting God with Our Children’s Futures
As homeschooling moms, we sometimes carry the weight of shaping our children’s futures. We wonder: Am I doing enough? Am I giving them the right experiences? Am I helping them find their gifts and talents?
But here’s the truth—God’s plans for our children are greater than our own.
Our job isn’t to figure out every detail of their future. It’s to faithfully nurture their hearts, to guide them in truth, and to trust that the Lord will lead them in His perfect timing.
I once read a story shared by Rachael Carman about her son, who created all the artwork for The Word in Motion Bible curriculum. What amazed me was that he didn’t even study art until later in life. It was such a beautiful reminder that God’s timing is never off—and His purposes always prevail.
We can plan, prepare, and encourage our kids, but ultimately, He’s the one holding the blueprint.
Committing Our Work to the Lord
This week’s verse, Proverbs 16:3, gives us such peace and assurance:
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”
When I read that verse, I feel a deep sense of relief. I don’t have to have everything figured out. I don’t have to know every step ahead. My responsibility is to commit my plans—my homeschool, my parenting, my dreams—to the Lord and trust that He will establish what’s right.
Even when my efforts feel small or my plans fall apart, God is still working. He’s writing a story far more meaningful than anything I could create on my own.
When we trust Him with our children’s futures, we can rest. God has a purpose for every season—each day, each subject, even the messy or chaotic moments—and He’s using them all to shape our kids into who He created them to be.
A Prayer for this Week
Heavenly Father,
Today I commit everything in our homeschool to You. All of my plans, our schedule, and all of our activities. The things I arrogantly try to control without consulting You. If we are on the wrong track, please intercede and show me the way You would have us go. Help me to seek out Your will for us each day; make your plans my plans, and let your Holy Spirit guide my words and actions, that they may bring glory to you.
And Lord, I commit my children to You. I know that I don’t need to worry about their futures, or if I’m doing “enough” in our homeschool. I know that You love them and have a good plan for their lives. In my limited view, I get scared because I don’t see the full picture that You see. I am thankful that You hold us in Your capable hands. Help me to fully trust You with my kids. Give me a vision for their lives, and help me to guide them on the right path.
Work through me in our homeschool this week, and give me strength to rise to the challenge each day.
In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen
Resting in His Plan
I’ve seen God’s faithfulness again and again in my own story—and I know you have, too. The path may twist and turn, but when we look back, we can see His hand in it all.
So this week, let’s release our worries about the future. Let’s trust that the same God who is guiding us will also guide our children. He’s already at work in their hearts, preparing them for the unique callings He has placed on their lives.
Whatever you’re planning, teaching, or praying for this week—commit it all to Him. Because when we do, He promises to establish our steps.
