What a privilege it is to pray for our spouses. Here are some of my favorite verses to pray over my husband, and my FREE Prayers for My Husband Printable Scripture Cards for you to enjoy.
When my husband and I got married, we had no clue what God’s desire for marriage was. In fact, my husband was not a believer, and at the time, I only occasionally attended church. We knew we loved one another and wanted to spend our lives together; but we didn’t really give a second thought as to what God had to say about marriage (nor, sadly, did we care).
Through a series of events some 10 years later, God began working on my heart and changed me. I began yearning for that relationship with Jesus, spending more time with Him in His Word, and finally truly understanding what I had merely heard at surface-level for much of my life.
This change was obviously made an impact in our home – it eventually led to our call to homeschool our children – but it was not without some bumps along the way. My relationship with my husband was very strained for a while as he wrestled with his faith.
I give all the glory to God that my husband surrendered his life to Christ about four years ago…something I (and so many others) had prayed for relentlessly for him.
Over the last couple of years, it has been a joy to be able to experience God’s goodness with my husband – I know that this is such a gift. We now know that one of God’s true designs for marriage is very different from that of the world’s: as married Christians, we are to reflect God’s image, to display His glory in all we do.
Prayers for My Husband
Praying for our husbands is a privilege and a joy. It helps strengthen us, and changes our hearts. It draws us closer to the Lord. Prayer is powerful!
Here are some of my favorite scriptures and verses to pray over my husband to help get you started:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
Thank you for my husband, Lord. May his love for you grow each day, so that it overflows from his heart, soul, mind and strength. Let others see your love shine through when they see my husband.
Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.
Father, let my husband not look first to the world or even to me to direct his steps. May your Word be the guide for every decision he makes so that no sin from the enemy will overtake him.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Lord, may his heart always know that You are in control. Let him submit to you to make his paths straight and know in his heart that your will is always the right way.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Even through trials, may he never forget that You have a good plan for his life. Assure his heart that he has hope in You, Lord.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
When things don’t go his way, may he remember that You will make it all work out in the end.
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
Father, may his heart be encouraged that You will always provide for his needs. We praise you that our deepest need has already been met through the work of Jesus Christ on the cross.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
May his heart never be burdened with worry and anxiety. May he remember to always come to you in prayer and present any and all requests to you with thanksgiving. Give his heart peace through your Son, Jesus, and let it be Him who is glorified through all of my husband’s trials.
If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
Please keep him safe and protect his body, mind, and spirit. Let no harm overtake him, and let him seek you to guide him in all of his ways.
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Heavenly Father, may my husband’s life bring you glory, in whatever he does in word or deed, forever and always.

Prayer for our husbands can sometimes get pushed to the backburner as we get caught up in other things…but it is vital that we draw close to God in prayer, and make time to pray for our spouses.
