Considering My Father’s World homeschool curriculum? We’ve used the curriculum for multiple years – and love it! Here’s why I think it’s a great fit for a wide variety of homeschool families.

All-in-one homeschool curriculum (a.k.a. “boxed” curriculum) can get a bad rap. Many homeschooling families love the freedom to pick and choose different curricula for each subject, maybe even for each child. This is a beautiful option – but quite frankly can be very overwhelming for new homeschoolers (and sometimes even us vets!).

There are so many great reasons to use an all-in-one curriculum, and this was the route I took for our first year homeschooling.

I didn’t have to worry about lesson planning, or making sure I was hitting all the standards. In fact, I didn’t even need to purchase different curriculum for each of my kids because I stumbled onto the gem of My Father’s World and their Family Learning Cycle option.

Considering My Father's World homeschool curriculum? We've used the curriculum for four years - and love it! Here's why I think it's a great fit for a wide variety of homeschool families.

For someone who likes to check boxes, I found the curriculum to be detailed and organized, but flexible and forgiving enough for spontaneous homeschool outings.

For someone with no time to plan, My Father’s World freed up lots of time in my schedule to focus on other areas of my life and homeschool that needed attention.

And for someone who didn’t know how much seeing our “school” and the world through the lens of the Bible would change my life and perspective…My Father’s World became more than just a curriculum. I’ll forever be grateful to the friend that suggested it to me!

About My Father’s World Homeschool Curriculum

My Father’s World is a literature-rich, Christian homeschool curriculum for preschool through high school that combines Charlotte Mason approach, classical education and unit study elements. It’s a physical curriculum (not online), so you’ll receive physical materials when you purchase one of their packages.

All subjects are included and taught from a Christian biblical worldview, which the founders believe is the only lens through which we can make sense of education – and I have to agree! And after using the curriculum for multiple years, I really have appreciated the fact that teaching God’s Word is not an afterthought, but the Bible is integrated throughout all lessons.

Why I Love MFW (and Continue to Recommend!)

Our K-2nd grade homeschooling years were certainly blessed because of this curriculum, and we are currently using My Father’s World preschool (All Aboard the Animal Train) and Exploring Countries and Cultures as well. Not only has it allowed our family to learn and grow together, but I love how it helps me keep God’s Word at the center of what we are learning.

What could be more important?

Here are the things that stand out the most to me about My Father’s World Homeschool Curriculum, and why I recommend it to all the new homeschool moms I talk to.

1. Complete Curriculum and Teacher’s Manual

When I was a new homeschool mom, I can’t stress enough how much the step-by-step, daily lesson plans made my life easier.

My Father's World Homeschool Curriculum

I will say, I was kind of bummed I didn’t get to pick out a cute new planner (I’m a little planner-obsessed!)…because I didn’t need one. I didn’t have anything to plan! All I had to do was open up the Teacher Guide, and all of my lesson plans were laid out and scheduled. It’s very easy to follow.

When you purchase a My Father’s World curriculum package for PreK through first grade, you get all the necessary materials to complete the year successfully (well, aside from a few household items or grocery store items you may need for simple crafts or projects). There is little prep work. This eased my anxiety so much and gave me confidence that I could actually do this homeschooling thing!

Starting in second grade, you add in language arts and math curriculum. There are suggestions given as to what you need to purchase additionally to make your curriculum complete. That way, you won’t feel like you are missing something. I love that you have the flexibility to use their suggestions, or choose a different option for those subjects.

2. Literature & Living Book Focus

One great thing you will love about the curriculum are all the wonderful books that come with it! Prior to My Father’s World, we honestly rarely did family read-alouds; this curriculum encourages it quite a bit, both during the “school day” and just for fun. Because of this, we’ve read through some great books together as a family, and it’s been an amazing bonding experience for us!

Engaging, living books (Charlotte Mason would approve) are suggested for Bible, history, and science, with appropriate activities to follow. Along with family read-aloud time, independent reading is scheduled daily for 20-30 minutes. You can use their book suggestions for this time, or allow your kids to choose other books that interest them.

The book lists in the back of the Teacher Guides are amazing, and give so many book suggestions that go along with each unit. I am usually a little overzealous at the library, and we never end up getting through all of them – but I love that there are multiple options! And I really appreciate knowing that the book suggestions can be trusted, and hopefully, help foster that love of learning in my kids.

3. Character Development

“I don’t quit – I persevere!” This Biblical concept we learned from the Turtle unit in MFW Kindergarten Curriculum (God’s Creation from A to Z) still sticks with my kids four years later, and we recite it when we need that reminder.

“I obey your law”, “Be kind to everyone”, and “It’s smart to be patient” are memory verses for the character traits obedience, kindness, and patience that my 3-year old practices daily. The preschool curriculum has really equipped us to use these phrases in our everyday language as gentle reminders for good character (along with the Bible lessons we learn alongside them).

In first grade (Learning God’s Story), we studied a new verse from Proverbs each week chosen to help strengthen Biblical character. And in second grade (Adventures in U.S. History), we learned about the character of Jesus as we studied his many names.

The focus Bible verses along with inspiring living books and biographies are all carefully chosen to help our kids develop good, Godly character. And I have found that the lessons truly do stick.

4. Quick and Efficient Lessons

One of the biggest perks of homeschooling I have come to appreciate is that school doesn’t have to take all day. My Father’s World gets this. The curriculum truly covers what your kids should be learning, and because of their integrated lessons, you’ll save so much time in your schedule!

What do I mean by integrated lessons? This means that you’re not just teaching social studies or math as isolated subjects; you cross the subject lines, make connections, and emphasize related elements.

And because the lessons are so efficient and effective, you’ll notice that you might have much more time in your day for extra curricular activities, play time, crafts, chores, or whatever other activities you want to do with your kids!

5. Thematic Units

Speaking of integrated lessons, let’s talk just a bit more about the unit study structure you’ll find in MFW curriculum.

Most of the units have similar rhythms that you’ll start to pick up on, which make them even easier to teach each week. Your kids will appreciate knowing what to expect, too, and it really helped keep things consistent in our homeschool.

Here are some examples of how the different themes and units are set up:

Kindergarten My kids focused on one alphabet letter and one science topic each week. For example, in Week 20 I introduced the letter “p” and the penguin. We learned all about penguins that week through books, science activities and hands-on activities.

There was also a link to a Biblical character trait as we discussed penguin families and how God wants us to be kind to everyone in our family (our words to remember were “I show love to everyone, especially my family.”).

We had a badge each week to remind us of these character traits, which we turned into a cute (and functional) library tote bag!

First GradeWe began each week with a verse from Proverbs, and learned an overview of Bible history from Genesis to Revelation. We especially loved the Bible Reader and Notebook this year, in which my kids got to summarize and illustrate our history readings. We also began our timeline this year, which was a great visual!

Second GradeThis year we explored U.S. American history and U.S. geography from a Christian perspective. We created history notebooks, continued our timeline, and learned about a couple of new states each week. We also learned about the names of Jesus, which tied into the curriculum’s science lessons; and while learning about history, we discussed biblical character relating to our country’s forefathers.

What I noticed right away is that the Bible is not taught as a separate subject; like all the other core subjects, it is integrated into the curriculum and units. It’s introduced early and often, alongside history, science, reading, and everything else, helping your kids view what they are learning through a Biblical lens.

6. Family-Style Learning

If you feel overwhelmed juggling multiple curricula for multiple kids, My Father’s World homeschool may be the perfect solution. With the Family Learning Cycle option, you can teach all subjects to all of your kids with one curriculum – even if they are in different grade levels.

The Teacher’s Guide shows you exactly how to vary the activities by the age and ability of your child, and what should be taught. Older siblings will have a more in-depth study of the topics, but you will all be learning the meat of the curriculum as a family.

This means that you can actively build togetherness in your homeschool more easily, during a time when the world seems to be actively working to tear families apart.

You’ll all be gathered around the table to work, discuss topics together, and share in the joy of learning. Your kids will learn from each other and grow together. I know the memories we already have made of our time spent in our homeschool will last years to come!

7. Company Values

Never before have I had a curriculum company call me on the phone to pray for me and my homeschool – how amazing is that? I was really impressed (and surprised) to receive a call like this from My Father’s World.

But that’s just the type of company they are. They have a heart for people and a heart for missions work. They are prayerful that the curriculum won’t only be a blessing to us homeschooling families within the walls of our homes, but that the global focus will prepare us and our kids for any kind of mission work (domestic or international) that the Lord may lead us to.

I have regularly seen this in action as the company donates curriculum to those in need, and donate their profits to Bible translation projects and mission work. Definitely a company I can proudly support.

  15. I just heard about this curriculum within the past week and I’ve read on the blog about it and I wish I would’ve started with this. I’m a first time homeschool mom and I bought so many curriculum to piece together and I wanted to have a biblical foundation. The curriculums I bought were all biblical and some were heavy on content but I feel like I’m in a whirlwind with trying to keep it all together. I don’t want to drop all I have, I’m gonna stick it through b/c my kids and I are getting a lot out of it but as far as fluidity goes when it comes to shifting to the next subject, the kids kind of get restless and/or need me to guide them still through the routines. I dunno… but next year I think I want to do things more simplistic. If that’s even a reality? I’d like to try this curriculum out hopefully next year? We’ll see.

  16. This looks wonderful! My youngest will be in kindergarten next year and I think this would be perfect for him. Thank you for hosting this giveaway 🙂

  27. Im looking for some advice. Last year we did mfw kindergarten and my four year old followed along for most of it. She’s definitely passed pre k so I’m wondering how I can re use the mfw k with my four year old while teaching my six year old first grade. She’s ready for kindergarten but I also don’t want to rush it. What does that look like? Using first grade curriculum and implementing K for my four year old? Any experience stories are appreciated. She did all badges, science (sun, butterfly, moon, ECT) she already knows her letter sounds ECT. So she would need K reading, math, writing. While I use first for the other. Sorry if that’s a lot of info. Trying to figure out what’s best while not adding too much time to the day.

    1. Hmm, so if I’m understanding correctly, she didn’t do any of the reading, math, or writing from the K curriculum? If that’s so (and if it were me), I would do the Reading/Language Arts and Math portions with her from MFW K, and then simply allow her to follow along when she is able to with anything you are doing for your 1st grader. Do you that might work?

  28. What an amazing opportunity! I’ve been looking into this curriculum for some time and I love everything I’ve learned so far. Thank you for the chance!
