We’re 43 weeks into our series of praying for our homeschools – I’m so thankful you are joining me! You can learn more about the series here. We’ll pray about a new area of our homeschool journey each week and dig into God’s Word with daily devotional reflections.

What are some of the things that “move” you throughout the day?

By move, I don’t mean what inspires you or stirs your emotions in a positive way. I mean—what shakes your focus, tests your obedience, or pulls you away from what truly matters?

For me, it can be something as small as a spilled cup of juice, my kids bickering over something silly, or not being able to find that one missing shoe when we’re already late. Those are the moments when I feel my patience slipping, when my peace feels fragile.

Sometimes I start the day strong—prayed up, grounded in truth, ready to face whatever comes—but as the hours go by, my obedience weakens. The little frustrations of life sway me more than I’d like to admit.

And the days I don’t begin with the Lord and His Word? Those are always the hardest. You’d think I’d have learned by now that those days rarely go well.

When life feels chaotic and small frustrations shake your focus, God’s Word calls you to stand firm. Be encouraged to stay steadfast in faith, rooted in Scripture, and anchored in God’s unchanging truth—because He is immovable, even when we waver.

There’s really no excuse for my disobedience, and yet, I’m thankful beyond words for a God who is steady when I’m not—a God who is immovable and still at work in my heart and my homeschool, even when I waver.

When Life Shakes Our Focus

The Bible reminds us in 1 Corinthians 15:58:

“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

What an encouragement this verse is. God doesn’t promise that the path will be easy—but He calls us to stand firm.

This verse also reminds me that what we do for the Lord—every small act of faithfulness, every prayer whispered over our children, every effort to teach truth and model grace—has eternal significance. Unlike the math facts or grammar lessons that will fade over time, our spiritual labor never goes unseen.

Even on the hard days, when we lose patience or feel “moved” by the chaos of life, God assures us that our work in Him is not in vain.

The Call to Be Steadfast

Standing firm isn’t something that comes naturally. It’s something we have to practice, over and over again.

It requires anchoring ourselves daily in Scripture—because when we fill our hearts with God’s truth, we have something solid to cling to when life tries to shake us. It means seeking the Holy Spirit’s help to show grace and patience, even when the day feels anything but peaceful.

Being steadfast doesn’t mean we won’t have emotions. It doesn’t mean we’ll never lose focus. It means that, when we do, we return quickly to the Rock who never moves.

Every time we choose to pause and pray before reacting, every time we hold our tongue instead of lashing out, every time we choose to thank God instead of complaining—we’re standing firm. We’re growing stronger in obedience and faith.

A Prayer for this Week

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your unchanging, unwavering Word that I can cling to, and for the assurance that any work done for you is not in vain. I desire to give myself fully to Your calling on my life, for Your praise and glory. Reveal to me any shortcomings standing in my way, and help me to honor You in steadfast obedience.

There are so many things that take up our time and attention each day that will cease to have meaning before we know it. Help me to remain focused on things that have eternal value. Energize me with your Spirit as I teach and train my kids to know, love, and serve You.

Give me the strength to remain steadfast and enthusiastically fulfill what you call me to do in our homeschool each day. I pray that I would keep my heart set on You, and that my life and work would be a reflection of your grace, goodness, and love.

In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen

Walking It Out

As you go about your week, think about what tends to “move” you—those little things that easily shake your peace. Ask God to help you identify them and respond differently next time.

And remember, standing firm doesn’t mean standing perfectly. It means standing faithfully—rooted in the truth that God is steady, even when we’re not.

Your work as a homeschool mom matters. Your daily faithfulness matters. And no matter how unseen it may feel, God sees you. He’s using your steadfast obedience to bear fruit that will last for eternity.
