Mother’s Day is a special day to celebrate the love and care of moms all around the world. It’s a time to express gratitude for everything our moms do for us, and show them just how much we appreciate their hard work and dedication.

You know that there is almost nothing better on Mother’s Day than receiving homemade gifts from your children!  As a homeschool mom, however, being around my kids pretty much 24/7 means that it can be hard for them to surprise mom with homemade Mother’s Day gifts.  That doesn’t mean that we can’t enjoy making them anyway, though!

I will take any chance I can get to create a sweet keepsake with my kids, and we’ll also search out an easy Mother’s Day craft or simple project we can make for the grandmas.

Truly, the best gifts are gifts from the heart.  I’ve rounded up some of my favorite, easy Mother’s Day crafts your kids can make at home.  These handmade gifts are simple, affordable, and sure to bring a smile to any mom’s face, letting her know just how special she is!

DIY Mother’s Day Gifts

In my opinion, creating gifts with your kids – for any occasion – is a great idea, for several reasons!

Serving others – Creating a gift for someone shows that you took time out of your day and put thought into someone else.  For your younger kids and older kids alike, this is a valuable thing to teach them.  Sometimes serving others can be as simple as making a card with a sweet message and bringing a smile to their face.

Cost-effective – Often, an easy craft can be created for much cheaper than if you bought a gift at the store.  You can often either use materials you have at home, or purchase them inexpensively. For example, while beautiful flowers certainly are nice, this paper flower bouquet or a 3D Paper Flower Bouquet would definitely be easy on the budget! Plus, it leads into my next reason, which is…

Personal touches – When your kids make a sweet gift for someone, they can personalize it depending on the receiver’s style and interests.  The gift is even more special and unique with little personal touches!

Fun and creative – Making a gift is simply a great way to let those creative juices flow!  There is also a very rewarding feeling that comes with finishing a work of art, and then being able to bless someone with receiving it.

  • Don’t wait until the last minute!  Try on a simple Mother’s Day craft at least a couple of weeks ahead of time so you can gather any materials needed from your local craft store, and not feel too stressed or overwhelmed.
  • Use high-quality materials that will last.  This ensures that your finished product is durable and practical, as well as beautiful.
  • Remember to personalize your gift.  Use her name, mom’s favorite color, or any other favorite things that are meaningful to her.  Think about her hobbies and interests when creating your gift to see if they can be incorporated somehow.  Add a special message or quote that would mean a lot to her.
  • Keep it simple!  A DIY Mother’s Day gift doesn’t have to be complicated to be special. Have fun and enjoy the process of creating a gift that reflects love and appreciation.

Happy Mother’s Day!

My best Mother’s Day gifts have been the ones my kids have made me – they’re so much fun to hold on to and cherish.  And it’s totally fine to share with your kids what Mother’s Day is, and even create a craft with them to keep for yourself.  I think that it is a great opportunity to reap some of those benefits I talked about above.  Have fun with your young kids, creating an amazing Mother’s Day gift that either you will cherish, or that you can gift to another mom in your family.
