Each year, our neighborhood does something really fun for the kids for Easter. Most of the time it’s a small Easter egg hunt at our community playground; but last year, they did something that inspired this You’ve Been Egged free printable that I’m sharing with you now!
The HOA reps went around to all the homes with young kids and “egged” their front yard – they left a bunch of plastic eggs filled with goodies hidden in our yards, so our kids could participate in an Easter-egg hunt at home (and us parents didn’t have to lift a finger). It was a fun way to make memories, and a sweet surprise for our kids.

I’ve seen this concept online before: “egging” a friend’s house with treat-filled plastic Easter eggs so they can enjoy a hunt with their kids! It’s such a fun tradition that spreads some joy in your community during Easter season. It’s also a great way to get your kids involved in an act of kindness, as help you prep the activity and show love for someone else.

There are two different versions: one card is great to use if you want to encourage your friends to “pay it forward” and “egg” another neighbor’s house; the other one is more generic. So you can pick which one you’d prefer to use. Print it out and laminate it for durability if you’d like.
Next, you’ll need 12 plastic eggs per house you want to treat. The clever poem on the printable lets them know that they will have 12 eggs to find, which helps guarantee they will find each fun treat!
You can get any size egg you want to use (some of the plastic eggs you can find are small, and others are bigger), and fill each empty egg with small trinkets and goodies your friends and neighbors will enjoy.
Some of the eggs you can buy come pre-filled – that makes it even easier!
When you’re ready to go, then tape the printable to your friend’s front door. Make sure you are careful about not using any kind of tape or adhesive that would damage the door (blue painter’s tape works well!). Hide the eggs well around the yard, and get out of there!

What Should You Fill the Eggs With?
Candy is always one of my favorite things to fill eggs with, but make sure it’s not something that might melt (depending on what the weather will be like, and how long it might be sitting outside!). Jelly beans are another great option!
The Dollar Tree or Oriental Trading are also go-tos of mine for little toys like this. Young children also like stickers, mini bubbles, magic sand, hair ties or clips, hand-written notes, puzzle pieces, Lego, temporary tattoos, bracelets or other jewelry for kids.
