We’re 47 weeks into our series of praying for our homeschools – I’m so thankful you are joining me! You can learn more about the series here. We’ll pray about a new area of our homeschool journey each week and dig into God’s Word with daily devotional reflections.
Has someone ever shown you a simple act of kindness—random or not so random—that you know you’ll never forget?
A couple of years ago, I had one of those moments. I was finishing up a run on my treadmill when I saw a text pop up from a friend:
“Can I bring you a coffee tomorrow?”
Just like that. No explanation, no expectations—just a simple question. And that tiny kindness opened the floodgates of emotion I had been quietly stuffing down all day.
Earlier that morning, I had turned down a playdate from that same friend, mostly because I felt overwhelmed. I was buried under a looming deadline, the homeschool day felt endless, the kids had been loud ALL. DAY. LONG., and I felt like I was failing miserably at keeping up.
She didn’t know any of that. I hadn’t told her a thing. But God knew.
And through that one text, it felt like He was reaching out to me, reminding me gently that I wasn’t alone—not in my overwhelm, not in my struggles, not in my homeschool.
When Kindness Becomes a Messenger
I’ll be the first to admit it: I’m not great at accepting help. Maybe it’s pride or the lie that I should be able to handle everything by myself. But this time, I paused. I resisted the knee-jerk “No, I’m good!” and said yes.
And in that simple act, God reminded me of something He’s been teaching me again and again:
I’m not meant to do this alone.
Homeschooling can feel isolating. Motherhood can feel isolating. Life can feel isolating. But the truth is—God sees, God knows, and God provides. Sometimes He does that through His Word. Sometimes through prayer. Sometimes through His Spirit’s comfort. And sometimes through a friend with a cup of coffee.
“Be Strong and Courageous…”
This whole experience brought to mind one of my favorite Scriptures—one that has carried me through some of my hardest moments.
“Have I not commanded you?
Be strong and courageous.
Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged,
for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
God didn’t suggest that Joshua be brave. He commanded it.
Why?
Because God knew that Joshua’s courage wouldn’t come from Joshua himself. It would come from the presence of the Lord going with him—step by step, battle by battle, unknown by unknown.
And isn’t that the same for us?
We face days when homeschooling feels overwhelming, when our patience runs thin, when we feel stretched in every direction. But God calls us to be strong and courageous because He is with us.
Our strength doesn’t come from more willpower.
Our courage doesn’t come from having the perfect schedule.
Our peace doesn’t come from having a good day.
It all comes from Him.
God’s Presence in Everyday Moments
When my friend texted me that day, it felt like Joshua 1:9 in action. God was reminding me:
“You’re not alone. I’m with you. And I’ve placed people around you to remind you of My love.”
We’re not meant to do life—or homeschooling—on our own. God designed us for community, for support, for encouragement.
And sometimes, obeying Joshua 1:9 looks like:
- accepting help
- letting someone bless you
- being vulnerable
- not pretending you have it all together
- being open to the ways God wants to strengthen you
And other times, it looks like being that encouragement for someone else.
This Week’s Encouragement
As we meditate on Joshua 1:9 this week, let’s remember:
- We can be strong and courageous—not because we are strong, but because God is with us.
- God often works through the people around us.
- We don’t have to be afraid or discouraged—not even on the long, loud, messy homeschool days.
- We are not meant to do this alone.
- God equips us for the work He’s called us to do.
And let’s be open to receiving and giving kindness. You never know how God might use a small act like offering a cup of coffee.
Prayer for the Week
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your promise that You are always with me. Just as You were with Joshua, calling him to strength and courage, You call me to walk boldly in the path You have set before me.
There are days when homeschooling, family, and life feel like too much. But You never leave me to carry those burdens alone. Help me lean into Your strength this week, trusting that You are with me in every moment—big or small.
Thank You for the people You’ve placed in my life who offer support and encouragement. Give me the humility to accept help when I need it, and the eyes to see others who may need encouragement from me. Help me to be Your hands and feet, sharing Your love just as You have shared it with me.
When I begin to feel overwhelmed, bring Your Word to mind. Remind me that because You are with me, I can be strong and courageous. Let everything I do this week—every lesson, every challenge—be for Your glory.
In Jesus’ precious name, Amen
Thank you for joining me again this week! You inspire me to remain faithful in prayer, and I hope this week’s encouragement reminds you of God’s nearness and unfailing strength.
