Spaghetti Casserole is a no-brainer meal that is easy to make on busy nights. Most kids love spaghetti, so it’s a dish that typically won’t get many complaints from the peanut gallery!
While I grew up loving traditional spaghetti, I (surprisingly) hadn’t had spaghetti casserole until a friend brought it to us when our youngest son was born. Everyone ate it right up. And it was such an easy recipe to make: ground beef, cooked noodles, tomato sauce and cheese mixed together and baked. Even I could do that!
This spaghetti bake is now a go-to recipe I make almost weekly, mainly because of it’s simplicity. I don’t have to think about it, and the ingredients are easy to have on hand. It’s quick to cook. And it’s easy to change up the ingredients just slightly to make an entirely new dish (without much thought) when things get a little boring.
And the whole family gives it rave reviews!
My Classic Spaghetti Casserole
My basic spaghetti casserole recipe, that I have fine-tuned and we all love, is easy to make.
All you do is brown 1 lb. of ground beef and 1lb. of Italian sausage together. Add in one jar of marinara sauce and one jar of pizza sauce to make the meat sauce for the casserole. Maybe a little Italian Seasoning, if the sauce you’re using isn’t seasoned.
Stir in a box of cooked spaghetti noodles (we like the thin spaghetti, and I break them into thirds before cooking), add a handful of mozzarella cheese, then pour into a greased glass baking dish.
Top with parmesan cheese and fresh mozzarella cheese, bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees, and voila! Weeknight game changer, let me tell you.
This pasta casserole great to prep a day in advance as well; just keep it in the fridge and pull it out (letting it come to room temperature) the next day when you are ready to bake!
Church Supper Spaghetti Casserole
Sometimes, the basic gets a little boring, so we need to revamp the spaghetti casserole a bit. Enter my Church Supper Spaghetti Casserole – another family favorite and crowd pleaser.
This comfort food recipe is also great for a weeknight dinner, or perfect (as the name states) for bringing to a church potluck, family gathering, or to a new mom who needs a break from cooking.
With simple ingredients and a whole lot of flavor, all you need to add is a side of garlic bread and green salad (and possibly dessert), and you’re good to go.
Equipment Needed
To make this easy baked spaghetti casserole, you’ll need a deep casserole dish on hand. I love this Pyrex Deep Baking Dish set that comes with lids – perfect for storing leftovers.
This is an easy dish to get your kids involved in. They’ll love helping you in the kitchen, and may also learn some new skills! My daughter has become an expert at browning meat for me, and she also loves measuring and combining the ingredients in this recipe.
