We’re 32 weeks into our series of praying for our homeschools – I’m so thankful you are joining me! You can learn more about the series here. We’ll pray about a new area of our homeschool journey each week and dig into God’s Word with daily devotional reflections.
God is our peace, even in the chaos of homeschool life.
Homeschooling is an adventure—rewarding, yes—but not without its fair share of challenges. Some days, it feels more like herding cats than educating future scholars. There’s beauty in the chaos, but let’s be honest: that chaos can also steal our peace if we’re not intentional.
But here’s the truth we often forget: as born-again believers, we have access to a peace that surpasses all understanding. A peace that comes from our Heavenly Father.
This week, we’re praying for peace in our homeschools—and in our hearts.

Jehovah Shalom: The Lord Is Peace
Remember the story of Gideon in the book of Judges? Israel was deep in sin, worshiping false gods, and facing oppression from their enemies. In response to their cries for help, God called Gideon to lead. When an angel appeared and declared, “The LORD is with you, mighty warrior,” Gideon wasn’t convinced. He doubted his own ability, even questioned whether God had really chosen the right man.
But God’s response was simple and powerful: “I will be with you.”
When Gideon realized he had spoken with God and lived, he built an altar and named it Jehovah Shalom—“The Lord is Peace.” Even in his fear and uncertainty, Gideon experienced God’s peace immediately. And we can, too.
God is peace. It’s not something we have to earn—it’s who He is. When we walk with Him, draw near to Him, and stay connected to Him, peace becomes our reality, no matter the circumstances.
Holding On to Peace in the Everyday
As a homeschooling mom, I’ve had plenty of moments where I let my frustrations get the best of me. Maybe you can relate. Whether it’s curriculum struggles, a pile of unwashed dishes, or kids melting down mid-lesson, our peace can feel fragile. But it doesn’t have to be.
We need to remember we have access to a divine peace that isn’t based on how well the day is going. It’s based on who God is—and He is faithful.
Here are a few practical ways to focus on His peace this week:
- Start your morning with God. Even just 5 minutes in Scripture and prayer can set the tone. I love using the Bible Recap or the First 5 app to stay grounded.
- Take quiet pauses throughout the day. Whether it’s between subjects or while folding laundry, use those moments to breathe and invite God into your day.
- Choose faith over worry. When anxious thoughts creep in, take them captive. Replace them with truth from God’s Word, and ask Him to fill your heart and mind with peace.
The more time we spend with God, learning who He is, the more peace we’ll experience—peace that others will notice, too.
A Prayer for This Week
Heavenly Father,
You are Jehovah Shalom, the God of peace. Thank you for the gift of homeschooling, and for being my peace in the midst of what can be some very chaotic days.
Help me stay aware of your presence this week, and keep my eyes on you as my children look to me for guidance. Give me peace when all of my buttons are being pushed. Give me peace when there is no quiet time and the housework is piling up. Peace when our homeschool day is dragging on.
Bring me to a place of rest in You when I doubt my abilities as a homeschool mom, or when the curriculum doesn’t seem to be working. Because I know that YOU are working at all times in our lives, and I can have a peace in your presence that surpasses all of my humanly understanding.
You have called me to teach and train my children, and I trust that you will guide me. Help me to never neglect this privilege, and to show my children more about your nature through the peace you bring me.
In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen
