Easter is almost here. I know this year is zooming by, and Easter egg hunts are popping up everywhere. We certainly enjoy one or two of those, but I thought I would share some of my favorite Christ-centered Easter ideas that you can also add to your family’s traditions.

I have tried to include resources for children of all ages because I know a lot of time older kids get forgotten in these round ups.  I also included reading plans, Easter crafts, art projects, food crafts, books and even a scavenger hunt your kids will love!

Let’s get started. Here are some great Easter activities you’ll want to plan for this year (no Easter bunny required)!

Are you looking for some easy-to-implement Christ-Centered Easter ideas this month? I've got a great list of Easter activities your family can enjoy together, as you learn the meaning behind Easter and celebrate our Savior's resurrection.

Christ-Centered Easter Ideas

Make Resurrection Rolls

Resurrection Rolls are an easy, meaningful baking activity you can do with your kids to help them learn about the true meaning of Easter. You may have also heard them called Empty Tomb Rolls. Basically what it is is a crescent roll wrapped around a marshmallow. But you can find the full recipe here at Equipping Godly Women.

The marshmallow represents putting Christ’s body in the Tomb. Once the rolls come out of the oven and you open them up, the roll is empty. It’s a great analogy that elementary age kids will really get, but even toddlers could help make these.

Make a Tomb Craft

This is a fun centerpiece from Savings Lifestyle is something that you can make for your table with your children. Toddlers and Preschoolers probably need some help making this but older elementary children could make this themselves.

While making this with your children it will be a great time to discuss what the empty tomb means to Christians and why Easter is so important.

Read this Easter Bible Reading Plan

I absolutely love this Easter Bible Reading Plan that Cheri Gamble came up with for young children. She also has a reading plan for older children and even teens.

Not only does this reading plan offer what passages to read each week but it also gives discussion ideas and questions that will help you talk with your children so they understand what you are reading them.

Read some Christian Easter Books for Children

Here are some of our favorite Easter books that we keep coming back to year after year. Many of these stories we have shared together so many times the pages are starting to come loose (we even enjoy reading them when it’s not the Easter season).

What is Easter?

This beautiful book is written by award-winning author Michelle Medlock Adams. This is a great preschool book to share with your child that helps them understand what is Easter and why it is so significant to Christians today. It talks about some of kids favorite parts of Easter like Easter eggs and candy but shows the true reason for Easter, Christ’s resurrection.

God Gave Us Easter

This story is told from the point of view of bears talking about how Easter is even better than Christmas.  This is a beautiful sweet story that works well for preschool kids through about first or second grade.  Although even don’t be surprised if your older children snuggle close to listen too.  It truly makes the perfect family Easter read aloud.

The Way to the Savior: A Family Easter Devotional

This is a Forty Day devotional that will bring your family together to read the story of Easter.

What I love the most about this book are the beautiful watercolor illustrations that go so well with the message.

The devotionals only take a few minutes to read and you can squeeze them even into your schedule on the busiest day.

The Story of Easter

This is another board book that has my heart. It explains why Easter is celebrated and is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers. Older kids will likely be bored with this book.  But it isn’t the exact story from the Bible but it does help younger children understand the Easter story.

He is Risen

This book I just think is so neat. It is made with rock art to tell the story of Easter. It is so engaging but doesn’t overwhelm the reader or the listener. It is a very sweet book. The simplicity and beauty of this book can not be overstated.

More Fun Family Easter Activities

Resurrection Eggs

This is a great idea from Motherhood on a Dime.  It’s a sweet little poem that helps children remember the real meaning of Easter by using each letter in the word Easter to represent a different aspect of the Easter Story.

You can get the full instructions over here. But you do need six plastic eggs so don’t fill them all with candy before you check this out.

This is a fun activity your children will remember always.

Crown of Thorns Chalk Pastel for Older Children

This is a great activity for older kids who are really growing into budding artists. For this activity you will need some chalk pastels, so you may need to plan ahead to get those if you don’t have them at home.

This makes a beautiful piece of art that will become a keepsake  The steps by step process makes getting a beautiful piece so easy.

Chalk Pastel Easter Cross

This went viral a few years ago on Pinterest and it really deserved to too. Simple enough for young artists to buy the results are absolutely gorgeous every time. It gives you simple step-by-step instructions to make your own and with very little help even preschoolers can get fantastic results.

Easter Scavenger Hunt

I printed off these scavenger hunt cards. I can’t wait to use them. It is a great way to reinforce all the learning we have been doing in a fun way.

All of the prompts on those scavenger hunt cards are generic enough that they can be used in any home. I love how simply and lovely the cards are made. At the end of the scavenger hunt your child finds their Easter Basket or other treat.

Easter morning is a special time for families but sometimes teaching the lessons on why it is so special can be a little bit difficult, especially for the smallest of hearts. I hope you found these resources helpful in making your Easter more Christ-Centered and helping your whole family celebrate and learn together.
