We are nearing the end of our third year of homeschool (the years are flying by already!), and for me, it’s the time of year when my crazy type-A brain starts to analyze what went well this year and what I can do better next school year (there are always ways to improve and grow, right?). For instance, homeschool tracking is one of the things I am determined to improve upon!
Next year, I will have a 3rd grader, twin 2nd graders, and an almost 2-year old underfoot. We are going to be making some curriculum changes, and therefore will have some changes to our daily homeschool routine. Especially since I have 3 older, slightly more independent kiddos and a little one tearing the house apart when I take my eyes off of him!
This year, I spent waaay too much time planning and tracking data. I dreaded it at the end of each week. I thrive on schedules (and honestly, my kids do too!), but as a sleep-deprived, nursing mama this year, I hadn’t planned ahead to implement anything effective for us.
Yes, we got our work done, and don’t get me wrong – we had an amazing year! But looking back, there were so many things that could have gone more smoothly had I taken the time to put certain systems in place.
As a result of this, I took some time thinking through things we have done over the past couple of years that HAVE worked well, thought about our new curriculum, and what I needed to track for our state requirements (we homeschool in Missouri). The end product is this beautiful Homeschool Tracker I can’t WAIT to use to organize and track our year!
Excitement about a system is MUCH better than dreading it each week, huh?
Tracking State Homeschool Requirements
In addition to wanting to record grades, schedules, and curriculum plans, we need to log core and non-core subject hours for our state requirements. I have had zero luck finding a system for this that I have been happy with, so I knew I needed to create a simple printable I could have at my fingertips to log hours each day. Some states require other records (like attendance), so I included a sheet for that too.
Tracking your homeschool can feel burdensome on top of everything else that’s on your plate – if you’re anything like me, you want a system that is easy, customized, and organized.
