The lazy days of summer are the perfect time to work on life skills with your children. There aren’t any academics to work on usually and summer days are just more relaxed than school days. Teaching and practicing life skills are also a good way to beat the summer doldrums too. Life skills are more than cooking and cleaning. There is always something to practice.

5 Reasons Why You Should Teach Life Skills This Summer
1. Life skills are safety skills.
The more your child can do for him/herself, the safer they are from unscrupulous people. It’s imperative that you take time to teach them how to properly take care of their own hygiene needs. It’s a sad fact about the world we live in at the moment.
2. Your family will run smoother with less stress.
Think about one thing your child could learn to do that would help make your family run smoother. The list is endless.
- Learn to tie their own shoes?
- Learn to make their own lunch?
- Learn to do laundry?
- Learn better time management skills?
- Learn how to swim?
- Learn how to use email safely and properly?
3. You are setting them up to be successful adults.
We all want our kids to know how to navigate life with the least amount of trouble. The more life skills they have mastered, the more competent they will feel to face life’s challenges.
4. You have more time to work on them.
Summer has a relaxed schedule. The days are longer. There are less commitments on the calendar. Simply put, the dog days of summer are the perfect time to learn a few new things. Even if you only teach one new skill every summer, your child will be better off for having learned it
5. It can become a fun summer tradition.
Some of kid’s favorite memories will revolve around traditions. We have traditions around holidays. Why not make one that will literally change their life?
Don’t know what life skills to work on? We can help with that! Our online membership has over 500 skills to work on or our Express Bundles with certain skills for every age level. But you don’t need a curriculum per say. Pick a skill your child needs to learn and you know how to do then teach it to him. Boom! Done.
