Hi you guys, welcome back to my channel. Today's video is going to be a flip-through video
0:04
I'm really excited to share a new resource with you from my friend and author, Danica Cooley
0:08
who just released a really fun puzzle and activity book called Bible Investigators Creation
0:15
Now, don't make a quick judgment when you hear puzzle and activity book because this is so much more
0:21
I'm really impressed with it and think it will be a great resource for parents to use in their homeschools
0:30
So today I'm filming this video in my office. Well, it will look a lot more like an office soon
0:37
My goal this weekend is to get this room painted. We're going with a much lighter color. We're
0:42
going to move the piano just to another wall and get some furniture in here so I can have a
0:47
space to work. I like to work in the kitchen a lot because it's a central location
0:51
especially when we're homeschooling during the day, but I also really need a space where
0:55
I can just come in, shut the door, and have a few minutes of peace and quiet when it's time to
1:00
work. I don't know if any of you work from home, but setting on this space like this is really
1:04
important, I think. So I'm excited to work on that this weekend. And hopefully I'll get a show
1:08
with you guys soon. Like I said, this book right here is a new release from Danica Cooley. It's
1:15
actually going to be released this week, but you can pre-order it now. Danica is the author of
1:20
the Who What Why Series, which includes six different books. So here are a couple of those that I have
1:28
here maybe you have seen them around. I actually have a review of a couple of these up on my blog I will
1:34
link to in the description below in case you want to check them out. So she has the reformation bundle
1:40
which includes three books, the other one's upstairs in my girl's room right now. And the abolition
1:45
bundle was the newest release. So we have these three books in that bundle. And these are all
1:53
fun narratives that help kids see God's sovereign hand over history. to share how scripture has impacted Christians, to change the world as they implied their biblical
2:04
worldview. So these books are all short, easy reads. They're typically less than 100 pages
2:10
And they're illustrated and they're geared towards about 9 to 11 year olds. However, I really enjoyed
2:16
them myself and I'm sure that older kids would still get something out of them. Danica is also the author of the Bible Road Trip Bible curriculum and the book, Help Your Kids
2:26
learn and love the Bible, which is a great resource that will really encourage you that you can
2:32
and should teach your kids to understand the Bible, even if you are still learning yourself
2:38
and even if your days are already filled to the brim with other lessons and activities
2:42
This book will encourage you and give you a solid plan of action to teach the Bible to your kids
2:48
I love Danica's heart for God's word and for parents to help them make meaningful Bible study
2:55
a daily part of their lives. And I think that this new book is something different and it's such a fun
3:00
way for your kids to investigate the Bible on their own and learn about a really important topic
3:07
Creation. Okay, so let's talk more about this book. Yes, it's a puzzle book and I'm going to show
3:11
you the puzzles and activities that are included, but more importantly, it teaches your kids important
3:16
biblical doctrine. It's geared for kids who are about 8 to 12 years old and the goal is to help them
3:22
learn to learn scripture, discern God's will, and really understand and apply what God tells us in the Bible
3:29
When I was in middle school, I remember every day my dad would come home from work and he would
3:34
bring the newspaper home and I just couldn't wait because I would flip to the back page for all
3:39
of the puzzles. I loved doing the crossword puzzles and when I got older, I loved logic puzzles
3:46
Sudoku, any kind of puzzle. So it was really cool to see puzzles like these and so much more in this book
3:52
word searches crosswords cryptograms mazes drawing and journaling word scrambles and so much more Kids are gonna love this Anyway we want our kids to get to know God right to have a personal relationship with him That means they are going to
4:08
need to be in the word, not only to read it, but to really pay attention and understand what it says
4:15
And then they need to know how they're going to take what they learn and apply it to their lives
4:21
This is exactly what this book is going to help them learn how to do. They will learn a lot of skills
4:26
for reading and interpreting the Bible, and it's a really different and unique way to do this
4:31
So I'm going to turn the camera around and show you what this looks like
4:35
All right, you guys, let's take a minute to flip through this book and see what is inside
4:42
Okay, so looking at the table of contents, we've got section one through six. So there are
4:51
six total sections in the book. We've got God created everything in the beginning
4:56
The story of creation, God made me, our creator God, God's good creation gifts, and then God's great salvation plan
5:08
And then we move to the introduction. And what I really love about this is it sets kids up to be Bible investigators
5:15
It talks about how the Bible was given to us by God
5:20
And it is something that he gives to us so that we can know him more
5:25
And it's our job to be a good investigator by observing, interpreting, and applying. So right away, it lays out, you know, we're going to be paying attention to God's word. You are going to learn what it means when you read it and then how to apply it to your lives. I love how it really talks about God, the creator of the universe, wants us to know him, wants us to read his word so we can discover what matters for our lives and what he wants for our lives. That's really important for
5:55
kids to know. All right. On the back side, they get to draw themselves as an investigator and journal a
6:02
couple of things. Writing out a short prayer. And then we get into section one. So I mentioned that this is
6:08
much more than just a puzzle book. It really is. She is going to be talking and giving information in
6:15
here that helps to teach kids about the Bible. So it talks in this section about God creating out of
6:20
nothing. And when we flip the cage, we see that there is scripture verses that the kids are going to
6:27
read. And again, just some journaling. And then we get to a password puzzle. And this puzzle is going
6:33
to help the kids find their first creation verse. So it's a really fun way to get them thinking about
6:41
and learning verses from the Bible. Let's flip the page. You have another puzzle here where they're
6:46
going to be figuring out the rest of that verse, some journaling. And then there's a little bit of that verse. Some journaling. a little bit up here. It looks like it talks about how it's important to observe God's word
6:55
and then interpret it. So I love that she's giving instruction and really teaching kids through
7:02
these puzzles and through this book how to read and understand God's word. So let's just keep
7:07
flipping through this first section here. Another puzzle, some journaling, more puzzles than journaling
7:16
observing, interpreting, and applying those things that were mentioned that kids are
7:20
are going to learn how to do. Here we're talking about how real investigators use logic
7:28
to interpret clues, reasoning out an argument that makes sense. That's really important to do when kids are reading anything
7:37
Do more puzzles and some journaling. So throughout this book, Danica
7:47
is going to be teaching kids about creation, using journaling, using puzzles to really help that sink in and teaching them what they need to do
7:57
to interpret and really dig deep into the passages of scripture that they reading All right let just flip through a few more pages We got a logic puzzle here I love those Those are really fun
8:10
So it's just a different take on a devotional. You've got the devotional lot of learning happening here
8:17
and then journaling, puzzles, things like that sprinkled in. All right, I'm just going to flip through the rest of this first section so you can get a really good idea of the types of puzzles that are in here
8:40
All right, so that is the end of section one
8:53
All right, in this second section, we've got the story of creation. And if you're curious whether this mentions, you're
8:59
young earth perspective, old earth perspective, anything like that, this sticks straight to the
9:05
scripture. So it doesn't give any kind of point of view on either of those things. It tells it
9:11
like it is. So God created this on day one, on day two, on day three. So I know there's
9:17
different perspectives on what a day means. Is that a literal day or is it, you know, something else
9:24
So it does not get into that. She just takes it exactly from Scripture. So on day one of creation
9:31
God made this. If you are curious about that, just know that this isn't planted one way or another
9:38
from what I can tell. It is just taken from Scripture talking through the different days of
9:44
creation and what God tells us about that in His Word. Okay. And then we get two sections
9:54
great, God made me. What I really love about this section is how she focuses on God being a very
10:01
personal God, how he breathed life into man, and how he made every single one of us and knows
10:08
every single one of us perfectly, how he formed us, knitted us together in our mother's womb
10:14
That is such an important truth for kids to know that before we were even born
10:19
He knew us, he loved us, and he had plans for us
10:24
So that is a really great part of this section. Lots of reflection on that
10:32
And just talking about what scripture says about this really important topic
10:43
And I also love that this section talks about why we were created
10:47
That is another really important truth that our kids need to know that we have a purpose
10:51
Why were we created? part goes through that as well. Section 4 talks about our Creator God. We're going to be learning
11:00
about God's attributes. Section 5 is all about God's good creation gifts and ties it into creation how he gave his good creation gifts to all people
11:39
So it goes into a little bit of detail about that here
11:44
Talks about how God blesses us and we are stewards of God's gifts
11:50
I love how this section talks about rest, how God gave us. us rest but he also gave us work So it talks about work and why this is important why God gave us work And it has the kids doing some reflection on that A work is a blessing Working is good for us
12:12
And then it also talks about marriage. How in Genesis 2 we get the gift of marriage from God
12:20
And this is, again, a really important truth that kids need to learn today
12:24
Marriage isn't just something that, you know, people came up with on their own
12:28
Marriage was a gift from God between a man and a woman
12:32
So we talk about that in this section. And it also talks about how and what God's good plan for marriages
12:38
And obviously that that good plan has been broken by sin. But she does a really good job of covering that in a way that kids, middle grade kids are going to relate to and be able to understand
12:53
And then finally in the sixth section, we have God's Great Salvation Plan
12:58
So in this section, we are going to be obviously learning. about how sin separates us from God, what sin is, how it came to be, how it relates to the
13:08
creation story, teaches about how Adam and you sin that that we are all sinners and that we
13:18
need that savior. I just think this is so much fun. Just looking at all the puzzles and everything in here, I mean, it's something that I really
13:29
kind of want to do. So I think for kids, this is just really, really unique
13:33
I haven't seen anything like this before. And it's so rich with teaching and the puzzles just add that extra effect that is going to, I think
13:45
keep kids engaged, help them to remember what they're learning better, help them to remember
13:49
scripture better. And this is just, this is awesome. I love this book
13:54
I hope that you guys are enjoying seeing this slip through and seeing everything that's in here
13:59
And in the back, we do have answer keys. That's important. Don't tell your kids that, though
14:05
We don't want to make cheating on the puzzles. But they are back there
14:08
All right, you guys, that is a look at Bible Investigators' creation by Danica Cooley
14:17
We are studying Genesis this year at church. So I don't think this could have come in a better time for us
14:25
But this is a great book for your middle grade kids at any time. honestly, I'm going to have to get another one because my two girls are going to want their
14:32
own copies. And as for how we are going to use this, right now, I'm not going to schedule it like a
14:38
regular curriculum, but it will just be something extra that my kids can work on when they want
14:43
to or during their Bible study time, things like that. As you saw, there are six sections
14:48
so you could use it as a six-week unit study for your homeschool, or it might be something you
14:53
could use with kids at church, or if you're on a road trip or it's a rainy day or whatever
14:57
lots of ways you could make a book like this fit into your homeschool. I really love this new
15:03
book and I hope that there will be more in this series coming out more than just the creation
15:09
This is a great start but I hope there's more. Oh and here's a fun fact for you. In the
15:13
answer section of the book there is a URL where you can go to get free downloadable
15:18
copies of the puzzles. So if your kids make a mistake or you want to use it with multiple
15:22
kids and you don't want to buy the entire book, that's one option. I don't think everything
15:27
is printable, but the puzzles are. Okay, there you have it. I hope you enjoy taking a look at this
15:32
fun resource. I think it's so important to help your kids develop good habits in their Bible study
15:38
and I love learning about resources that will help us do this. Make sure you check out all of Danica's
15:44
resources at Thinking Kids Press. I will leave the link to this book and her website below for you
15:50
Go check it out and order it if your kids would love this. And before you go, don't forget to
