Hey guys, welcome back to my channel for another video. I am sitting down right now with my
0:05
daughter Karlie. She is finishing up some of her CTC math work. Um and I saw this on all of my kids
0:14
desks this morning. Apparently um Luke what did what did you say this was? This is an assignment
0:20
from dad? Yeah, supposed to take a test on it after we study. So yeah, apparently um Josh is giving the
0:27
kids a lawn mower quiz. This is going to be part of their um summer learning. Luke is starting to
0:34
mow the lawn but this is good information for everybody to learn. I could probably learn some
0:39
of this myself. But um today is going to be just more of a vlog chatty style video. Um we have a
0:46
couple things going on today. It's going to be a short day. My son Luke is actually getting ready
0:51
to start a coding class online. He's going to be doing um a live online class. This will be our first
0:59
time trying something like this. So I'm gonna go get him set up and I will check back in with you
1:05
guys in just a little bit. It's fine, you can tell everybody about your new teaching series
1:14
Hi Josh! My kids are gonna hate me this summer because I have a new, you should know that, teaching series
1:22
I'm printing out and creating content. You're gonna get all this. You should know that, is that what this is called
1:28
Yes. This is new to me. You should know this. I made tests for all of this. See this? I got skills
1:37
See this? I got skills. What prompted this? My kids not knowing things
1:46
They know lots of things. They're gonna know a lot more than this. All right well stay tuned. Um I'm not sure what else um that this will, what did he, what did he
1:58
call it? You should know this? You should know this. What this curriculum will entail
2:03
Screwdrivers. I should probably know all this stuff too. So all right um that this will be new. This will be fun. Um so I'm sitting here right now
2:16
with my son Luke. Say hi Luke. And we're getting him set up on Code Wizards HQ actually
2:23
Um this is gonna be where he's doing some live coding classes. This um actually it's what 12
2:32
classes, three weeks, 12 classes. And let's see if I can show a little bit of the screen there
2:37
But we're waiting for the class to start. We have about six minutes. And this is the first time we've
2:42
done a class with them. Luke was really interested in doing an online, like a live coding class
2:49
learning a little bit more about coding. And there are a lot of options out there for classes like
2:55
this. Um my husband Josh is a software engineer. He does a lot of programming and so he kind of
3:01
looked into a lot of different options. And based on um just the content and how it looked, what
3:07
looked interesting to Luke, this is the one that we picked out. So we are excited for the class to get
3:12
started and see how it goes. So we um officially kind of ended our school year on Friday. And that
3:22
sounds funny since we're still sitting here um doing some classes. My daughter is working on
3:26
some math. Emma finished up with some stuff. So she's just enjoying some game time right now
3:31
um while we do this. But um we finished all of our major stuff. So um we finished my father's world a
3:39
while ago. Actually maybe two or three weeks ago. We finished our language arts curriculum. We
3:46
finished, my girls finished all about spelling level two. And what else? Oh we um we're doing
3:54
some science with sunlight. And we finished up not all of that. But I picked out the major units
4:00
that we wanted to study. And we finished that last week. So even though we're continuing some
4:05
learning into the summer, we I like to have kind of a last day where we do something fun. We went
4:12
to the park with some friends. And we went out to menchies. That's kind of a tradition of ours
4:17
So we did that to celebrate mainly winding down everything. But also just a successful homeschool
4:25
year. It's fun to have those little traditions and kind of commemorate those things. So that was
4:31
Friday. And then today and really through the month of June, really what we're going to be doing is a
4:38
little bit of math every day. And we're doing Latin about two days a week. And then um probably
4:45
practicing our Latin vocab a little bit more often. But two days a week in our review book
4:50
And math every day. And then Luke has his coding class for um three weeks. One hour a day, four
4:57
days a week. And that's pretty much it for June. We're taking it kind of easy. Um we've got some
5:04
extra activities. We have VBS this week. My little guy, my five-year-old is going to be doing some
5:11
swimming lessons. Hey Bella. And he is doing some martial arts classes over the summer. So
5:18
we'll be going to that in a little bit. Just something he's trying out to see if he wants to pursue that. But um yeah other than that we've just um got got some other fun
5:30
activities planned. Some fun outings. Time to relax and recharge where we don't have as much
5:36
schoolwork on our plates. And just enjoying some downtime. So getting ready to start this class
5:43
with Luke. I'm going to sign off for now. And I will hop back on later and let you guys know how
5:48
it goes. All right so Luke is taking his coding class right now. I thought I had everything set
5:54
up and ready to go. And then we tried to click on join class. And I realized that it is in Zoom. And
5:59
I didn't have Zoom on his computer. Luckily that was really quick to install. And he's about halfway
6:07
done with today's class. He's never done Python before. So it's something new that he's learning
6:12
And um it's going slowly. It's the first day. So the kids kind of did a little get to know you
6:20
But as it's technology um some things are going wrong on some of the the kids computers. And so
6:29
some of the things are taking a little bit longer. The teacher is being really patient and really good
6:35
um to help the kids try to fix and troubleshoot what they need. But um it's kind of typical for
6:43
what you expect in a classroom right. Like it just things take longer because everybody is coming in
6:50
um with their own um techno technological issues and things like that. So he spent a little bit of
6:57
time waiting around for some of that. And they're just getting into some of the coding. So I'm
7:03
curious to hear how he likes it. And as we continue throughout the week how everything goes
7:10
All right. Well Carly is finishing up some math. So she's working on some fractions and
7:15
CTC math. So I'm gonna check this for her before she enters in her answer
7:20
Okay so you divided both of those by three. Okay that looks good. Yeah make sure you enter in that
7:28
um reduced form for your answer. So I hopped on my computer while he's in class because I am
7:32
updating my monthly giveaway. Um you guys may or may not know that I run a monthly giveaway
7:40
through my blog um blesshomeschool.com. And I work with different homeschool brands homeschool
7:45
homeschool brands homeschool companies that I love. And I am excited to kind of share them with
7:51
you and give you guys an opportunity to win something fun for your homeschool. So this month
7:56
we are doing a giveaway with BJU Press. I am so excited about this. But I hopped online because
8:03
I have a graphic that I need to update. Um with BJU Press we are giving away um a great prize. So
8:13
um one one of you will have a chance to win an online video subject kit from BJU Press. So if
8:23
you have ever used them um before they they offer a textbook kit so you can get a textbook and teach
8:29
to your kids um from the textbook. Or they have video lessons where you have a teacher that
8:37
teaches the lessons online. It's not live but they log into the BJU Press Homeschool Hub
8:43
The video lessons are right there so every day they watch their lesson. The teachers do a great
8:48
job. They're really engaging. And then there's usually some work to go along with that from a
8:54
workbook um or a project or something. But we used their video lessons for about three years
9:02
a couple of years ago and really like them. So they're great if you are looking for
9:08
courses that have a biblical worldview foundation that are going to teach your kids from that
9:14
biblical worldview. If you're looking for something that maybe there's a subject you don't like to
9:19
teach and you want to find you know a great a great option for that. Or you know when we used
9:27
it I really just needed a little bit of help with time because I had a newborn and we were just
9:33
needing something a little bit different. So I will leave a link down below in the description
9:39
where you can go check out the monthly giveaway and enter to possibly win this. So you'll get
9:44
to pick out any subject that you want. One subject. So it could be math, science, um history
9:52
which they call heritage studies. And you can enter to possibly win one of those. And if you're
9:57
watching this and this month has passed still go check out the link because there will be something
10:04
new every month that you can try to win. So I am just going to um update this graphic real quick
10:11
I'm going to go check back in on Luke and then um after he finishes up his class I will be taking
10:19
Oliver um to his martial arts class. So we'll do that. He does that just once a week and like I
10:25
said we're kind of going month to month right now. Brand new to martial arts. I know nothing about it
10:31
so we'll see if it's going to be something that we end up sticking with or not. It's Kajukenbo
10:39
is the type of martial arts and one of my friends had set up kind of a little homeschool group over
10:44
the summer so we're trying that out with him. And then tonight we actually have VBS with our church
10:51
and I am going to be teaching the fifth and sixth grade group. So fifth and sixth graders are going
10:57
to have a separate VBS kind of a little bit more mature VBS separate from the younger kids. So I
11:03
need to do a little bit more prep on my lesson for that and um probably going to do that when we get
11:09
back from martial arts. It's going to be a busy night but a lot of fun so I'm really looking forward to that
11:17
Oh is that like the background of everything? So I wonder if you're going to learn how to do that part of it like code. I mean I guess if you're..
11:36
Bella you love that new toy don't you? You guys hear squeaking in the background that's what it is
11:42
So what did you guys do this first day? So today we put all so we made this code in it let us make
11:54
this appear. So what I did was I put my own background in. Yeah from Minecraft. Yes
12:02
basically I can go up and down and there's this is originally supposed to be like a space
12:08
but now I could put now I can shoot little bullets and then I can also dodge the asteroids
12:14
that are coming. Oh that's cool. So what's the code that you had to type in for that to work
12:19
So for this I had to type this in. That's cool. All right so already by first class you're learning
12:25
how to do some basic coding and and make a little bit of program. What'd you think? Did you like the
12:31
first class? All right good deal. I'm excited to see how the recipe goes. Okay so we just got back
12:38
from our martial arts class. My son had a great time and I love how in summer we just have a
12:46
little bit more time to slow down and try some things that maybe we don't always have the time
12:52
to do during the school year like this martial arts class or like the coding class my son was
12:58
doing earlier. My son who you saw doing the coding he's been really enjoying learning about video
13:05
editing himself and what goes into making a YouTube channel. So he is he loves gaming and so
13:12
he's been working on doing his own YouTube channel about gaming and kind of learning everything that
13:17
goes into that and so I love that during the summer we just have more time to explore different
13:23
interests to just hang out together do you know some fun outings with friends and I'm I just love
13:31
it. I'm looking forward to all of it this summer. So I thought it'd be fun just to put together
13:36
a quick video giving you a little update sharing our day with you. I'm thinking about doing this
13:41
you know randomly either this week or throughout the summer but content is a little bit slower over
13:47
this summer and that being said if there is anything that you guys would like to see any
13:53
videos that you've been wanting me to make any questions you have about homeschooling or anything
13:59
really leave a comment below. I love hearing from you guys and sometimes my videos come straight
14:06
from requests from you so if there's anything that you would like to see this summer leave a comment
14:12
below and I would love to hear from you or help you guys out in any way that I can. One of the
14:18
things that I have planned for this week is to go through and organize all of our schoolwork
14:26
paperwork, binders, books, everything that we used this year in our homeschool and just get it
14:33
organized get it put away filed away um and things like that so that is the plan this week. I do not
14:42
have time to do that today uh I've got to go finish getting prepped for our VBS tonight we're
14:47
gonna have an early dinner because we've got to be up at the church by about 5 30 so we're going to
14:54
do that soon hoping maybe tomorrow I'll have a little bit of time to kind of clear things out
14:59
put things away and I'm probably gonna start pulling out our stuff for next year or in the
15:06
fall and I'm not going to organize it all but it'll be good to kind of start getting that stuff
15:12
out and especially looking through I like to go through and look at all the supply lists and make
15:17
sure that I have all the supplies and things that we're going to need for our first day just kind of
15:22
planned out and then I don't know when I'm going to buy everything but um just starting that process
15:28
a little bit at a time so we don't get to the first day of school and I'm just overwhelmed or
15:33
I've forgotten something so this week we'll be cleaning everything out starting to pull things in
15:40
and just starting to organize a little bit among all of our VBS craziness and my son my youngest
15:47
son starts swimming lessons again tomorrow he's gonna do that like only once a week or so um but
15:54
yeah it's gonna be a fun week so leave a comment below like I said if there's something you want
15:59
to see or I would also love to hear from you guys share with me you know is there something fun that
16:05
you're doing this summer what are you looking forward to are there any new learning activities
16:11
that you're excited about or are you taking a break from anything just let me know I love hearing from
16:16
you guys so I think that is it for today thank you guys again for tuning in and hanging out with me
16:23
for a little bit and I will see you next time
