Hey you guys, welcome back to my channel for another video. Today I'm going to be sharing about
0:04
books. There is a great resource you might not know about where you can find great Christian
0:10
books, support a Christian-based book ministry, and trust that the books you are buying are going
0:15
to point you and your family directly to Jesus. So stick around to see what I bought today
0:22
I haven't really done a book hall before and I bought six books. So maybe this is like a mini book hall
0:28
but I'm really excited to share these with you today. So this video is actually a collaboration hosted by my friend, CJ, at homeschooling through high school
0:41
and Stephanie from Shulte Sweeties. A bunch of us moms are sharing our plans for spring and Easter in our homeschools
0:48
So if you check out the playlist link, I will leave that in the description below. You'll find videos talking about homeschool Easter plans, read aloud, books for spring
0:58
Easter baskets, unit studies, all things, Easter and spring. So make sure to check out that playlist
1:03
after you watch this video. Okay, so the reason I am sharing these books today is because I just
1:08
picked them up at a conference this weekend. And I always love to put at least one book in my kids
1:14
Easter baskets in addition to candy. So I thought this might give you a couple of good ideas and a
1:19
great place to shop for Easter basket books or honestly books at any time of the year. This weekend
1:23
my church held a biblical worldview conference. We had some great speakers
1:28
and this book ministry, 10 of those is their name, came to set up a little pop-up bookshop
1:34
with some great books that were relevant to the conference and lots of other fun options
1:38
My family got to volunteer this morning to help them man the checkout table
1:42
so while my kids did that, I got to do a little bit of shopping. So let me show you some of the books I got
1:48
Okay, so the first book that I picked up, this is kind of related to the conference
1:52
It is called What Is Your World View by James Anderson? and I mentioned it was a worldview conference
2:00
We talked about what a worldview is, what is a biblical worldview, why is it important
2:05
And this is kind of a fun book. It's an interactive approach to life's big questions
2:10
And it's kind of like a choose your own adventure type book with a little bit of a twist
2:16
So first, I will show you they have some different questions at the beginning
2:21
So you kind of go through and you answer how you would answer each question
2:26
and then depending on how you answer, it takes you to another page, and then it takes you, you know, page to page until you get to where it tells you basically
2:34
what your worldview kind of lines up with. So how are you thinking about things
2:38
But then on every page after that, it actually goes into each worldview and talks about each
2:45
worldview. So, for example, you know, the first page talks about the freedom question
2:50
So it gives you a little blurb to read. And then depending on how you answer at the bottom
2:55
it's going to send you to another page. So that's kind of a fun, just a fun little intro, but what I
3:01
really liked here was that it went through all of the different worldviews that I showed you from
3:08
the front and it kind of has a page on each of them explaining them. Let's see, was that it
3:16
Okay so though that was just talking about the different types of worldviews but then it gets into actually a lot of different worldviews talking about them And I think this stuff is really interesting
3:27
It's good to know. It's good to know what other people think
3:31
You know, there are people that think differently than we do, obviously. And I thought this was good
3:36
At the beginning, there was something that a question asked, is this book biased
3:42
And author says, well, sure, but if you think about it, it's unavoidable. since everyone has a worldview, everyone has a bias. There is nothing neutral. We are all biased
3:50
towards our own worldviews, and all of us tend to interpret and evaluate the world in accordance
3:55
with our worldview. So that's true about everything we pick up, every homeschool curriculum that we
4:01
use. Everything has a worldview. And this next part said the real issue isn't whether we have biases
4:07
because we all do, but whether we are aware of them and able to think critically about them
4:13
So being able to evaluate different worldviews, understand where people are coming from
4:20
I just think it's really interesting. So this is a pretty short read
4:23
It's not, you know, not too bad, but good to just have on hand to reference
4:28
That was the first book. And I should have mentioned at the beginning. Not all of these are books for my kids' Easter baskets
4:32
I have one of them that I'm actually going to put in the Easter basket. The rest are for me and then to use kind of for, well, I'll show you in a minute. Okay
4:41
the second book that I got was this one I had never heard of this one before I love you know
4:48
parenting books biblical parenting good strategies for teaching and training our kids and this is
4:53
called write it on their hearts practical help for discipling your kids by chris swain and
4:58
Melissa swain so this book really is talking about how we can make the most of our time with our
5:04
kids as a parent but more importantly as a christian parent so there's so many things that compete
5:09
for our kids' time and how can we just best use our time and approach it in a way that's going
5:16
to make a good difference in their lives and really disciple them from scripture. What stood out to
5:20
me for this is that they give very practical kind of step-by-step advice. They have some charts
5:26
in the back. They have some schedules. They have kind of like, you know, year plans, monthly plans
5:33
how to actually implement some family discipleship and things like that. And I love stuff like that
5:41
I love this step by step. I love, hey, tell me what to do. I can implement this
5:46
But just looking through it at the bookshop, it looked really good
5:50
And so I'm excited to read this and maybe get some new strategies for our family
5:54
because we are so busy. And we do read the Bible and we learn about the Bible in our homeschool classes and
6:03
in church, but we haven't always been great about family discipleship, like all sitting down together
6:08
as a family and digging into scripture together. So I'm hoping this will just be a good read
6:14
and give me some good ideas on that end. Okay, the next two books, I actually had these in my
6:20
Amazon shopping cart for a while. And when I saw them there, they were actually cheaper. So I decided
6:25
to pick them up here. And I thought they were cheaper online too. If you get my email newsletter
6:30
I had mentioned these the other week because I was thinking about getting them and I just didn't pull the plug
6:37
And then I saw them there today and was like okay well they cheaper I going to go ahead and grab them So my kids my oldest son is 12 and my girls are 10 And these books have been recommended to me a long
6:51
time ago. So growing up God's way for boys and growing up God's way for girls. And so these are
6:56
really books for them that kind of talk about going through puberty and the changes that they're
7:02
going to experience and how God designed our bodies to work. work. It's they're meant to help our kids understand the changes that they're going to be going
7:13
through and also just give them some good practical ideas for taking care of themselves and how
7:21
they can be honoring to God by taking care of their bodies as they get older. So I had kind of like
7:27
I said, gone back and forth about this. We talk a lot about different things. We have had the sex talk
7:34
we've had all of that type of thing with our kids but just that you go through a lot of changes as you
7:40
grow up and so I thought these would be just good books that are rooted in scripture and would just
7:47
be great for them to kind of look through and reference so I picked these up at the bookstore
7:53
or the book pop-up shop okay so I said I got six books the last two are for my youngest well in this one
8:00
we'll all probably kind of read together I had never heard of that
8:04
this book before. Maybe some of you guys have. It's everyone a child should know written by
8:10
let's see, Claire Heath White. And this is a book that will introduce kids to heroes of the faith
8:17
This year, as we've been going through my father's world, exploring countries and cultures
8:20
we've really enjoyed reading some of the missionary stories that came with that curriculum
8:25
So we've read about Nate St. David Livingstone, Amy Carmichael, and just learning about different
8:31
people like that. So this one, it is a pretty short book and there are 52 Christian men and women
8:38
that chose to live their lives for Jesus. And I love that there is, there are 52 because that
8:45
means there is one for every week. So we can be intentional to read this together either once a
8:50
week or, you know, my little one loves to read stories before bed. So it might be something that we're
8:55
just kind of sitting around and we read together before bedtime. Or maybe we will use it at the
9:01
beginning of our homeschool day and just do one a day or one a week. But I'll give you an example
9:07
Oh, this is the next missionary that we're going to read about. But it's one page pretty much per
9:12
person and it has a picture and then just a little blurb about what they did and how they
9:25
lived their life for the Lord. And let's see if they have a
9:31
table of contents in here. So these are all of the different people that are talked about in
9:39
this book. So there's lots of missionaries. There's writers. There's martyrs, politicians
9:46
poets. And I just think it is really great to expose kids to people like this who are true
9:54
heroes of the faith So many times we don hear about people that are making a stand for Jesus and really putting everything they have into following him And that is really important I think to have those examples in today world So that was the fifth book that I picked up
10:12
Okay, and then finally, the last book I got was this one. It's called I See Jesus
10:18
A friend had told me about this quite a while ago. And I just, I kind of forgot about it, but I saw it on the little table today and decided to go ahead and grab this
10:28
this is written by Nancy Guthrie and this book right here is really cool because it will help show
10:37
kids how the Old Testament and the things that happened in the Old Testament were a shadow of
10:44
Jesus. So I see Jesus. How do we see Jesus in the things that happened in the Old Testament? I'll
10:52
show you a couple pages. So for example, here is a pretty popular one, but it talks about
10:58
Passover when God told the Israelites to mark their doorposts with the blood of a lamb
11:03
And then, so it gives the Old Testament little story here. And then on the other page
11:09
it gives a passage of scripture that relates to that in the New Testament. So this is about
11:16
um, this one is from John 129 when John saw Jesus coming and said, look, the Lamb of God who takes
11:23
away at the sin of the world. You know, it's nothing super in depth. It does give you scripture references
11:27
so you could go to the Bible if you wanted to read more in depth. But I love the fact that it's
11:33
helping kids start to make those connections and you can start to have those conversations with
11:38
them. That was something, you know, going to church all my life. I did not understand that the
11:45
Bible was one big story. And I feel like, you know, I know that now. And sometimes I just kind of
11:52
think, well, that's, everybody knows that. But I have to remember that maybe not everybody does
11:56
and if that's something that you're learning or you want to teach your kids, then this is a great book to do that
12:03
I think it's really important to see the Bible as one big story of God's redemption plan for his people
12:11
And it's so cool to see Jesus all the way through scripture
12:17
So this was the last book that I had picked up and I'm really excited to read it with my kids
12:23
Again, the book ministry that I got these from is called 10 of those. They have a heart to get
12:29
Christian books in people's hands that will point them to Jesus and the Bible because they know
12:35
how life-changing books can be. They hand-select all of the books they offer to make sure they
12:39
line up with the Bible and discount them as much as possible to make them accessible and affordable
12:46
And shipping is always only $1. They have a lot of great books like these. And I also noticed
12:51
some wonderful Easter books on their website that you might want to check out as well. I will leave a
12:55
link in the description below along with the link to the collaboration playlist. So go check them out
13:00
All right, I think that's it for today. If you enjoyed this video, give it a thumbs up
13:04
And I'd love for you to subscribe to my channel and share this video. It really helps small channels
13:09
like mine get seen and shown to more people on YouTube. Let me know in the comments which of
13:13
these books looks interesting to you or if you have any questions at all. Thank you for watching
13:18
I'll see you next time
