Hey you guys, welcome back to my channel for another video. My name is Sarah and I'm here with my son Oliver today
0:05
We are going to be taking you through a pre-k lesson with us. We use the voyage of discovery from my father's world
0:13
We are almost near the end of our semester. So I'm going to show you what we're doing and just take you along with us today. So let's go. You ready
0:23
Let's do both in the letters. We'll see. All right, so let me show you real quick what we are actually working on
0:33
We are on week 31. So like I said, we're nearing the end
0:43
And this is what our schedule looks like. So with my father's world, it is split up by day
0:49
So one, two, three, four, five. And we've got Bible verses, story, and activity
0:55
and more outside story time and educational toys. So today's actually Tuesday. We didn't get any of
1:02
our school in yesterday. We had some other stuff that we were doing. So we're going to probably combine a
1:06
couple of things. At this point in the school year, we kind of pick and choose which of the activities
1:12
work best for us. Some of them work really well. And some of them, Oliver doesn't really need. So we
1:17
either skip them and just leave them out. Like some of the educational toys, we've done a lot of those
1:23
this year. So sometimes we skip those. Sometimes we're at the point where we skip some of the
1:28
Plato or the alphabet art activities just because we've done quite a few of those. But the Bible
1:35
stories, or the Bible lessons, I should say, I don't like calling them stories. The Bible lessons we
1:39
really like and some of our worksheets and art activities we really enjoy. So yeah, I'm going to
1:48
pull out some of our worksheets and see what we're going to work on today
1:53
And then over here on this side, it always gives you a list of materials for the week, what we're going to need
1:58
And then it's broken down by day, just with any extra notes that you're going to need as a teacher
2:06
Okay? So everything is in here for you. It is very open and go, very easy to teach from. And again, very customizable
2:17
You can definitely, like I mentioned, pick and choose what's going to work best for you and your kids
2:22
You don't have to do everything listed. Some kids are going to enjoy some activities more than others, so you just can kind of make it work for you
2:32
And we really enjoy that about this curriculum. Okay, so what Oliver was talking about is we have been focusing on about one letter a week
2:39
And right now we only have two letters left. Do you want to get your poster to show them
2:43
Do you want to take it off and show them what you've been working on? So every week we do a new letter and he gets a sticker that he gets to add to his poster
2:52
And then what do we? So we know that the one story already did
2:57
we just have Y and Z. We just have Y and Z left
3:01
And he already knows these letters actually. And he's really excited to kind of be done with this part of it
3:08
So we might actually do some activities for both of those letters. We probably won't do both of them today
3:14
You do have a pocket. Maybe I should hide your quarter in there. Because tell them what do we do with the other
3:19
There's two stickers per letter. What do we do with the other stickers? We put one of them on the poster
3:24
And then we put the other one on the coin. And then when we find a quarter, like someone's doing it
3:31
and then when we find it, we take the sticker off and put it on the other show
3:36
Yeah, and then what do you do with the coin? Do you want to show all the coins you've collected so far this year? Go ahead and grab your treasure box
3:41
So he has, I hope you can find the key. He has this little treasure box, and he's been keeping all of his quarters in here
3:49
So we'll put a letter sticker on the quarter. on the quarter. I'll hide it. We'll play a couple rounds where I hide it and then he has to try to
3:56
find it. And then when he finds it, he gets to keep that extra sticker and then put the coin in
4:02
the treasure box. So we've been collecting quarters this year and when we are all done, we'll
4:07
probably go to the dollar store or someplace and he can pick out something small as a prize
4:11
So he's really enjoyed doing that. This box has not had a lock on it like all year. So I'm
4:16
really hoping we can find the key. All right, here. Let's open your box
4:21
up. All right, let's see all those queens. There we go. We've collected a lot of quarters so far this
4:29
year. All right. So let's get started on some of your work so we can add your stickers to your chart
4:37
and learn these last few letters. All right. So let me show you this year we've been working on this I'm
4:43
Learning Finder and it's kind of where I keep all of this stuff. How I had organized this was all of the new
4:50
sheets I put in these page protectors and they are at the front. So I'm going to go ahead and take both
4:55
of these out right now. There are multiple worksheets in here. So for the letter Y, every week, I'll
5:02
just kind of take out what we need and then I save the page protectors for later. But these are
5:07
the sheets that we're supposed to be working on for the letter Y. There's only two of them this
5:13
week. Some weeks there's more. But this is what we'll probably work on today. And then we'll do
5:17
our letter Z stuff tomorrow. This book right here, after we finish everything for a certain week
5:27
I add everything to the binder. So it's just a nice collection of everything that he has done
5:33
all the letters that we've worked on. We have these little poem that we've done and we've read
5:42
throughout the year. And then we've also been working on numbers. colors and shapes So these are all kind of stored back here He loves to paint So all of the watercolor stuff he loves to do And this curriculum has been really great for working on counting numbers like I said recognizing some of the basic shapes things like that So
6:07
this is everything we have kind of done filling out his binder this year. And there's just some
6:15
extra things that he has painted in the back. All right. And these are just a couple of things that I
6:22
kept just some extra random random things that he had colored. And then just real quick, I'll show you
6:28
So for this curriculum, I have this binder that we used. It came with the teacher's manual right here
6:36
And then how I kind of store everything else. This is just in our kitchen. So I have some books
6:43
This is one of the books that we used for his curriculum. These are for my bigger kids
6:49
but then I have just this cabinet down here where I just stick all of our preschool stuff
6:54
So this bin right here has a lot of the activities and things that he has had to do
7:00
different cards, lacing, shapes. These are all alphabet foam blocks. We've got some Play-O
7:07
I have more Plato in our pantry. And then these are just the other books that came with the curriculum that we have been using throughout the year
7:18
some foam in the back. And that is pretty much it. This is actually some stuff for my big kids up there. So
7:24
not a lot of stuff that you need. And it's pretty easy to store, even if you have like a small space where
7:30
you need to keep everything. The only other thing that I use for him with this is I have like a little
7:37
bin where we keep all of his art supplies. So in here, I just have some crayons. He really
7:48
He really loves using these. They're kind of messy. They're not my favorite, but he really loves them. And then some markers and watercolors. So those are the main supplies and some glue and scissors. The main supplies that we've kind of used this year throughout our preschool curriculum. Do you know what color you want to use
8:08
Oh yeah. Okay. looks really good. How about you choose another color and we're going to trace over it the top one more time
8:21
What other color? What color would look good with orange? Maybe blue? Do you want like a light blue, like this blue? Or do you want a dark blue
8:29
Okay so do you remember, hold on with your letters? Good job holding your cramp correctly
8:35
So we start on the dot and you're going to go watch my finger. Watch. You're going to go like a V and then you're going to go down
8:40
So down up, down. Good and then pick it up before you go to the middle. So
8:48
try that more time watch you're gonna go down up then pick up the crayon and then go
8:51
straight down you can do that on this one that's awesome good job okay show me on this one
8:58
yellow yellow yellow starts with yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
9:18
Y. Yellow Glover. That says yellow. And what's this a picture of? Do you know what that is
9:23
Yarn. Yarn! Oh and you're yawning. Guess what yawn starts with. Yon starts with Y. Yes, yes. Yon
9:34
So for every letter, we have one of these worksheets where they practice tracing the letters
9:41
and then they match the picture. We glue it down on the top here. And then I just posted up on our
9:47
board so we can kind of focus on it throughout the week and talk about the sound that the letter makes
9:54
Okay, let's glue these down. Ah! And then this is the sheet of stickers that comes with the curriculum
10:08
So all the different letters on there, there's two stickers for each letter
10:12
Oh my gosh, you're thinking about it. That's okay. Okay, here we'll try the other one
10:19
What is that again? What's that a picture of what color? Yellow, yellow, yellow
10:23
Okay, what sound does the letter Y make? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
10:30
Okay, should we put your sticker up? Yeah, yeah, yeah! All right, here is your letter Y
10:38
Let's put that on your poster. Okay, so what I'm gonna do real quick is just take a look at this schedule
10:45
and decide what I'm going to do real quick is just take a look at this schedule and decide what exactly we're going to do today. So we're going to go through. I'm actually probably going to
10:52
read two of those since we, like I said, we didn't do this yesterday. We just did the poster
11:00
very simple voyage of discovery poster. We're going to skip this part. We don't really
11:06
enjoy those activities too much. And sometimes we do the snack with the letter, but we're not going to
11:09
do that today. I'm going to have to look and see what this is. We will do
11:16
this book right here and maybe depending on how much he likes it we might do this part two since it's in the same book
11:26
and then we're going to skip the puzzle for today and we're going to skip the alphabet puzzle boards for today as well
11:34
so um oh we're also going to be doing the paint and cut shapes card today because um he has it out and he
11:41
really wants to do that um and then let's see what else
11:46
So I think that's probably going to be it today. When I look over here, the discovery time, what is air
11:53
Okay we will probably do that because he will enjoy that Pretty soon And then introducing the color gray
12:06
Okay, he knows what that color is. So I think we're going to skip that for right now
12:11
He knows his colors really well. Okay, so these are the things that we're going to get done today
12:15
And it's Tuesday. And then tomorrow I'll kind of look through and decide what we're going to do for the rest of the week
12:24
Oh, and this part up here, let's see. So a robe. I think we're probably
12:34
probably going to skip that for today too, just because we're going to run out of time
12:39
And this activity we also haven't really been doing, so we're going to skip that as well
12:45
Okay, so for this activity, we are going to trace. We've got a bunch of shapes on this page right here
12:54
We're going to trace them with crayons and then it says to paint them with watercolors
13:01
Then with the dries, he's going to get some cutting practice and get to cut them out
13:05
But let's go over real quick. Are we going to use green for all of them or do you want to use different colors
13:09
Different colors. Okay, before you color, what shape is this right here
13:13
Do you remember the shape? What shape that is? Oh. An O, what shape
13:17
It's a circle, circle, right? It looks like a big O. Good, what are this one
13:23
You know that's a triangle, three sides. This one is what? Oh, you're doing this one next
13:28
What is that one? An oval. Good job. Good job. You're staying pretty close to those lines. Rectangle. Yeah
13:36
And then the last one is a what? A square. Good job
13:42
Let me go get your water colors ready. What colors are you going to use for painting
13:47
Wait now. This next part
15:00
We are going to discover amazing things about air today
15:19
So here, what color is this balloon? No, good. It's green, okay, ready
15:25
What is inside the balloon? What is? What is just air, right
15:31
Put your hand right here. Can you feel that air escaping? Do you think I could move like a cotton ball with that air
15:41
Can you grab one of those cotton balls from that little cup down there? Let's see if we can make a cotton ball move with this air
15:46
What do you think? Oh, here, let's try, let's try, let's see. start with one okay what do you think do you think we can make it move
16:19
Fill this with some water. You can't see, you're gonna need to be able to see
16:30
You wanna get the stool over here? Here, you can kneel on here, okay? We're gonna fill this with some water
16:38
We want to fill up with water for a minute, okay? Here's what I need to do
16:42
While that's filling up with water, I want you to take this paper towel
16:47
and I want you to stuff this paper. paper towel, sprinkle it up and put it in the bottom of your cup
16:52
Like stuff it in the bottom there. Why? Because we've been talking about air, right
16:59
Okay, do you think there's air in this cup? No. You don't think so? Yes
17:05
Okay, don't do anything yet. Hang on here, give it to me. I know what I'm doing. What do you think we're going to do
17:09
You think we're going to fill it up? Do you think that I can dump this cup in the water and keep the paper towel dry
17:14
What do you think if I did that with the paper towel stay dry? No
17:19
Well, it's getting pretty full. Mom, stop it! Okay. Can I do it for
17:26
Yeah, let me show you. Then you can try it, okay? All right, so watch, even though
17:31
I'm hoping that'll stay down there, there is air in here, even though we can't see it
17:36
Watch, what I'm gonna do, make sure it's really down there so it doesn't fall out
17:42
What do you think is gonna, what do you think's gonna happen? I go like this and put it in the water
17:49
What do you think the cup is almost all the way underwater
18:05
Look at that! The air and the cup kept my paper towel dry
18:12
Isn't that pretty cool? Watch let's show Carly. Ready, Carly? Okay, so we just finished up everything that I wanted to get done today
18:24
read through our Bible lessons. We did some of the air discovery and then we did read through all of
18:32
that in this book. I forgot to mention the helping together. These are just little chores we've
18:39
been doing throughout the year. So he started with doing things like making his bed, cleaning the
18:44
windows and putting away the silverware from our dishwasher. So he likes to do that. Oh
18:50
and feeding the pets. So he has like one small thing that he'll do each week
18:54
week and he does a great job with that. He likes to help. Okay, oh, and we did this one too. All right. So
19:02
looking through this, I just want to kind of circle, like I said, I kind of pick and choose what activities
19:07
are going to work for us for the rest of the week. We are going to make sure we do these right here
19:14
This looked really fun. Let's see. We will probably do this one with the Play-Doh. They make the letter
19:23
out of Plato and then look for the letter of the week on different things. He likes this book right
19:30
here. It's like a seek and find type book. We're going to skip the lacing shapes. We've done a lot of
19:34
those. We are constantly reading. We're doing that like at night. And so I'm just going to check
19:41
that off. I mean, that's something that we're going to do number of memory match. We actually did
19:46
this a little bit today. And we had that from last week as well. I have the card
19:53
here. I need to look and see if there's anything different that we're supposed to do with those
19:59
Okay, so yeah, it is pretty much the same activity. So I'll keep the cards and then if he wants to
20:06
play them again, we will if he doesn't want to. Then we'll just skip it. He's really good at his
20:10
numbers and he did great with that game today. So I will circle that. All right, this one right here
20:15
the prayer basket. We don't specifically do a basket. We say prayers. We pray together. This activity is where you
20:23
kind of made a basket and you collected pictures of people and you would pull different pictures
20:28
out of the basket and pray specifically for those people. We didn't necessarily do this specific
20:33
activity. So I'm just going to cross that out. We do pray for people though, just not that specific
20:38
like a prayer basket. Search for why objects. These are so in the appendix of this book
20:44
they have some different items listed for every letter that you can use for your art projects
20:49
or if you are searching for things. And so right here, searching for objects
20:56
So for why they give a suggestion, like you might look for yo-yo, yarn, yogurt, yam
21:02
you, yardstick. And we have a lot of those things. So we're going to go ahead and do that one of the days
21:09
And we probably will skip the art activity. He has done a lot of letter art activities
21:14
in his preschool co-op classes. And we, let's see, this book we will definitely be reading. I don't know that we will be acting it out. We'll have to
21:25
see, but we will read through that book as well. And we do park or we're actually doing a field
21:31
trip on Friday this week. We're going to a Health Works Museum. So I'm just going to check that off
21:35
because I know that's going to happen. So we do a lot of the activities. Some of them, like I said
21:40
I just like to kind of circle. So I see what we want to do. It looks kind of like a mess right now
21:46
doesn't it? But I can tell when I check them off that they're finished. And so we've got Wednesday
21:51
Thursday, and Friday. I'm not necessarily going to do all these things on Wednesday, these things on
21:56
Thursday, and this on Friday. Tomorrow we're just going to kind of start working through them and we're
22:01
going to get done what we can get done. I'll probably try to actually finish it all up tomorrow and
22:06
Thursday since I know Friday is going to be a busy day. So we just kind of work through it. Sometimes
22:10
it'll be all at once. Sometimes it might be in the morning and then finish it up the reading a little bit later
22:15
but that that's it for today's lesson and kind of what the rest of the week is going to look like for us
22:21
week 31 of my father's world voyage of discovery all right you guys thanks so much for joining me today
22:30
and coming on this lesson with us Oliver is outside right now with his sisters jumping on the
22:36
trampoline and getting some much needed fresh air time so I'm going to clean up this mess on the table
22:43
and then do a few chores around the house. Josh and I have things that we're doing tonight
22:51
Josh has a meeting at church with our son for something, and I have a ladies group meeting
22:57
This morning we had BSF, so it has been a busy day
23:01
But I hope you enjoyed taking this peek in a day in our preschool curriculum
23:09
I do have another one that I did from the beginning of the year, so if you're interested, you can look through my videos
23:13
and find that one as well. It's always a lot of fun, just kind of showing what we do during the day
23:19
