Hey you guys! Welcome back to my channel for another video. Today is going to be a tour of
0:07
our homeschool space. I haven't done a video like this before. It's kind of a lazy day at home right
0:13
now. We're wrapping up some homeschooling for the day. So I just wanted to kind of take you around
0:16
and show you the space in our home, where we homeschool, how I organize a couple of things
0:23
and how everything is set up. So if you don't know me, my name is Sarah. I'm a homeschool mom
0:31
to four kids. My oldest is 12. I've got twin girls that are 10 and then my youngest is 5
0:37
We have been homeschooling since my oldest was in kindergarten and he's going to be in
0:41
seventh grade next year. So our homeschool space has evolved over the years that we have
0:47
been homeschooling. I don't know that I'm going to show you anything like too earth-shattering
0:52
today. It's just just our home, just the space that we homeschool. But I hope if you are looking
0:57
for some ideas for some organization, this will just give you an idea of how I do it and I hope
1:03
that it is helpful in some way. So there are really two main spaces that we do our homeschooling
1:08
So I'm going to take you to the other room and show you the first one. Okay, so this is a room
1:14
right off of our kitchen. This is a room where my kids kind of do their independent work
1:19
mainly. This room has taken a lot of different flavors over the year. This is what would be
1:27
technically our dining room. A while ago I used this as a big office when I ran a jewelry business
1:36
out of our home. Then we actually did have a dining room table in here and we would all sit
1:41
around the dining room table and kind of use this as our main school room. But a couple of years ago
1:48
we purchased desks and computers for our kids as they have gotten older and kind of needed them in
1:53
their homeschooling. And so we kind of turned this into more of an independent work type space. So
2:01
we did get four desks. Right now my older three kids are the only ones using them or doing their
2:08
schoolwork in here. My five-year-old doesn't need his own computer right now, but we wanted to make
2:13
sure that we had the space and that he had one for whenever he was ready to do that. So I bought
2:20
these desks off of Amazon and I can try to find them and leave links in the description below
2:27
but they have worked out really well for my kids. And I really wanted them as they got older to kind
2:32
of start just having their own space where they could keep some of their things. Obviously they
2:37
use their rooms, but it's just nice to have a desk and just that extra space for them. So
2:43
they each have their own computer. We saved up and my husband actually is a computer whiz. I don't
2:52
know how he does it, but he built them all their own computers from scratch. So he had a lot of fun
3:01
doing that. And this is just a space where they can sit and do any of their online lessons. They
3:07
have space at their desk if they want to work there and things like that. On the wall, this is
3:12
where I started kind of collecting some of the artwork that they did through creating a masterpiece
3:18
So that was the art program we've used for the past couple of years. And so I just like to use
3:26
a space, not for any kind of other posters or things, but just to start showing off some of
3:31
their artwork. And my little one, of course, my five-year-old likes to join in. This is probably
3:37
more when he was like three or four. But I had to show his off as well. He's, you know, he's got some
3:43
improvement to do, but off to a great start. So that's the space over here. On the wall here
3:50
I have a little calendar that we can use. It goes over the month, year, season, and then we can add
3:57
the different days to it. Talking about different days of the week, the weather, things like this
4:04
I don't love having it in here. I would rather have it in the kitchen or, you know, a space where we
4:10
do more of our main schooling together, but there just wasn't space on the wall. So I have that in
4:15
here. This right here was one of the first things that I really wanted to get when we first started
4:22
turning this into a homeschool room. And this is maybe overkill. I don't know. It's a teacher in
4:28
me. I just really wanted to have a whiteboard hanging in our homeschool room. So I got this
4:34
on Amazon as well. My husband, I don't think he really liked hanging it up. It was a big pain
4:39
to hang up, but he did it for me and I'm very thankful. When we were in here using this as
4:45
kind of our main school room, it got used a lot more for some instruction. Now I mainly use it
4:52
to hang some things up. So we've got our big map on the wall and then I will, right now I have some
5:00
Latin stuff up on the board that we need to memorize. So having this up here and my kids
5:06
being able to see it all the time is really helpful with their memorization. And then I will
5:10
use it for showing math problems or things like that whenever we need to. But it's been helpful
5:17
over the years and again, not necessary for a homeschool, but it was just something that I
5:22
really wanted to have. And I think it works well in the room. Okay. This right here, this area is
5:28
where I store. It's kind of just for storage and for some of our books right now. So I do have a
5:34
printer up here and I found this for super cheap on Facebook marketplace because I wanted something
5:40
that had a copier. And so I was really lucky to find it. It's kind of old, but it still works
5:45
really well. This right here, I use for our book basket. So with My Father's World, they recommend
5:54
with every country that we're studying, we're doing exploring countries and cultures this year
5:58
we need to check out books for that country from the library. So, and then every day the kids will
6:05
be reading through some of these books. So right now we're obviously doing France. So I have a few
6:10
books here that were recommended by My Father's World. So the kids know that every day during
6:17
their book basket time, they can come in here and grab something out of this container. It's just a
6:24
toy for my little one to play with. And then these little buckets here, I think I got probably at
6:31
Target a long time ago. But these will just hold some of our math cubes, mainly math manipulatives
6:38
So we've got ruler, flashcards, little clock. These are some little counters, some more flashcards
6:47
And when we were using BJU Press, it came with all of these different manipulatives for our math
6:54
classes. So those are all just in little baggies in here. Okay. And we do, even though we're not
7:01
using BJU Press right now for math, we still will use some of those manipulatives sometimes
7:07
A globe. And then let's see, down here is where I am just storing a lot of the books that we have
7:15
collected over the years for our curriculum. And I try to keep them organized the best that I can
7:21
This first section right here is mainly science. And then we move over here. This is going to be
7:28
our history. And then I have like our dictionaries, thesaurus, any kind of books like that
7:37
And then down at the bottom are just readers that we have used with our curriculum. And
7:44
over here, these are a lot of the ones that we have already read, these first two
7:50
little sections. And then this last one, I try to keep ones we have not yet read
7:54
just so they kind of stay separate. And then over here are just some random things that I'm
7:59
storing. I have some boxes of unit studies from sunlight for Lent and Advent. And then down here
8:09
again, just some random stuff that I'm storing down there. So I think that's really it for
8:15
this room. Oh, I do have a basket over here that this is for library. So any books that they are
8:21
checking out, my little one, maybe that aren't necessarily part of our book basket, will go in
8:26
there and then they go in the bag when they're ready to go back to the library. So I can just
8:29
pick up the bag and we go. That big box right there is a box of old books and old curriculum
8:38
that we don't need anymore that I plan on taking to our local consignment store. Eventually
8:43
I just have not gotten around to it yet. Nice toy bin right there. Catch all for some of the toys
8:49
All right, so that is it for this room, the room where a lot of our independent work takes place
8:54
I'm going to take you to the kitchen now and just show you some of the storage and some of the space
8:58
that we use in there. Okay, so this is our kitchen, obviously, where most of the magic happens. We like
9:05
to sit around the table when we're doing our work together. And for that reason, a lot of our kitchen
9:12
has been transformed into our second homeschool space. When we first moved into this house
9:18
we actually built the house and we had this whole space over here built. We didn't have
9:24
extra cabinets put in. I wasn't really sure what we were going to do with the space at all and it
9:29
kind of just sat as an empty counter space for a long time. Well, I think the Lord knew eventually
9:35
we were going to be homeschooling and this is going to be a perfect place to put everything
9:39
because that's what it has turned into. So on this wall right here, I have another whiteboard
9:46
which has come in really handy just for putting up things that we need to use during our homeschool
9:52
day. So right now, I have our all about spelling letter tiles. I keep them up here. We do have the
9:59
app, but we've liked using the tiles a little bit more. I have the stuff on here. We've been
10:06
posting things throughout the year from my son's curriculum. He's been using Voyage of Discovery
10:11
from My Father's World for preschool. So we have those posters up and then of course our chore
10:18
charts. So if you've watched my video on that, you can learn more about how we do chores and
10:25
how that works in our home. So chore charts are on this board as well and then of course
10:29
you know, there's a little bit of space that I can use if I need to write down anything as we're homeschooling during the day, which I often do. So it's just very helpful to have that
10:37
in here. So over here, this is where the rest of our stuff, a lot of our stuff is stored for our
10:44
homeschool day just because we are in here and it makes it really easy to grab. So this bulletin
10:50
board has been up here since the beginning. Just another thing I think my teacher brain wanted
10:56
I wanted a nice big bulletin board in the kitchen. It has come in really, really handy because I post
11:02
stuff up here all the time that we either need to reference or that I need to just grab really
11:07
quickly. So a bulletin board is nice if you have room for it and think that you will utilize it
11:15
We also added that TV up there. That's fairly recent. I don't remember when my husband put
11:22
that up there, but it is really nice to be able to cast to the TV from my phone or my laptop and I
11:31
can pull it away from the wall. We can move it around so the kids can see it where they're
11:38
sitting at the table, but it's just really nice to be able to, if I'm showing videos or we're
11:45
watching World Watch News or anything like that, we have that screen that everybody can see and
11:52
yeah it's just a really helpful addition to the space. All right, on to the desk. Right here I
12:01
have, I bought this a long time ago, but I use it for just organizing a lot of our papers. So at the
12:09
top I have some random blank little books that my kids can use to draw in or write in if they want
12:17
to. So that's just stored up there. I have my Bible and some stuff up at the top just sitting
12:23
for now. This second drawer is heavy cardstock, so different colors of cardstock. Then here we have
12:32
just white paper drawing pads that they can use to draw on or if we need white paper
12:38
More lined paper is in this drawer. And this is lined paper again, but more for younger kids with their writing. So bigger
12:52
space is there. And then the bottom is just construction paper. So all the different types
12:57
of paper that we use and like to use, that is just how I organize it in that right there
13:03
And then I have this shelf, which again I picked up off of Amazon when we first started
13:09
And my kids have their own different compartment in here. So this is where they kind of keep stuff
13:16
that they use when we are working together. So it's easy for them to grab and easy for them to
13:20
access. So like my son has his literature stuff up here. He has his history book, some notebooks
13:30
and then my daughters each have their own cubby. And then they also use these three spaces for
13:37
other things that don't fit. So six of those spaces are taken up by my kids for things that
13:42
they will be using when we are doing homeschool together in the kitchen. These are just storage
13:48
for like I've got coloring books in this one. Each one has its own purpose. I've got magazines
13:56
in this one. We need those magazines and different things like that. We need them to look through or
14:02
cut stuff out of for projects. And then this is some of our drawing stuff or different craft
14:09
things. So any kind of little drawing books or things that they might want to use for
14:16
doing some creative stuff, that is all stored right there. Okay and then on this shelf specifically I
14:23
have things again that we're going to mainly be using together. So I have some books here that are
14:30
for my son's preschool curriculum. Some random books that we're going to be either reading aloud
14:36
or using for reference. I have teacher manuals for history, answer keys. This is our biblical world view
14:45
I've got our all about spelling stuff right here. Teacher manuals for language arts. And then these
14:51
are binders for my kids schoolwork. So this is for my preschooler for his voyage of discovery. All of
14:59
his work that we're doing throughout the year that we keep is going in there. And then my kids each
15:04
have a binder for my father's world exploring countries and cultures. So different color for
15:10
each of them. Teacher manual and then again some other books that we're using in our curriculum
15:17
Catechism and then some read alouds. Over here we also have some more read alouds, reference books
15:26
I have a bunch of random pre-k books in here that we honestly haven't used that much and I'm not sure
15:31
if I'm going to. I may need to get rid of them but or use them over the summer. I'm not sure
15:38
And then yeah so that is pretty much it for what stays on top of the cabinet here. On the bottom
15:45
I have our basket of science materials. So this is what we're using right now for
15:52
science all together is our sunlight level e science. So again each of my kids have their
15:57
own binder. I have a binder as a teacher and then all of our books and our experiment kit
16:04
just so everything stays in one place and I can pull out that crate pretty easily. I love using
16:08
crates and baskets or bins to store everything. In the drawer over here this is like our art
16:19
drawer. So each of my kids has their own little art bin where they've got markers, colored pencils
16:26
pencils, sharpies, things like that. I've got random tubs of markers and crayons
16:34
These are little easels that I picked up that they will use for some of their artwork
16:39
And so all the art stuff is in here so it's kind of all in one place. Well and actually I do have
16:46
some more art stuff in these drawers too. So all three of these drawers are kind of focused on art
16:51
and that's just where I keep all of our supplies. And then finally I use these over here for
16:59
the rest of our school stuff. So this is kind of just a catch-all for all of my preschool stuff
17:05
that I'm using with my son this year and then some random things for school that I didn't have
17:11
anywhere else to put them so they're just right there. This door is again kind of a lot of random
17:18
stuff. Doesn't necessarily go with the curriculum but there are puzzles, different activities that
17:22
different activities that we may be using, little letter magnets. So just another store space for
17:30
some of those items. Okay and then finally I will show you where I store some of the rest of our
17:38
supplies. I don't have an extra cabinet or anything like that so I store a lot of our
17:44
extra homeschooling things in our pantry. That's where I have the space to do it. So
17:50
it is kind of a mess in here and it's kind of just all over the place but yeah so at the top
17:56
here I have a bin of just extra mainly science things. Things that I have that I want to save
18:06
that we might be using in future activities or experiments and then just this top shelf is just
18:11
kind of for storage. Some things that my preschooler plays with, some extra boxes and some kits that
18:18
I have on hand either because we have the toys out and they just need to keep the boxes or
18:24
whatever. So that is all at the top and then on this shelf I've got some bins where I've labeled
18:31
them for different craft supplies. So lots of lots of craft stuff. So these are just things that I had
18:39
on hand and I needed a place to put them. This is just a random catch-all craft bin right here
18:46
some scissors, different types of scissors right in there. On this shelf again just this is where
18:54
I'll store any different crafts or manipulatives. These are some bins of just random school supplies
19:02
that I have collected. Things that might run out, things that we might need. So if I need
19:08
some kind of supplies I will come and check in here first before I buy anything because there's
19:13
a lot of stuff kind of buried in there. At the bottom I've got storage of extra binders, folders
19:23
notebooks and things like that. I've also got lots of binders kind of stacked up there that I can
19:27
reuse. Some different kits that we have used or that my kids like to play with and then right
19:33
here I've got a tablecloth to protect our table when we're doing crafts. Some things for my
19:39
preschooler, another craft bin. My girls love to do crafts. And then some more just catch-all bin
19:46
of toys and things that my preschooler uses. This bin right here that I have underneath, this is all
19:55
of our math stuff. So things that I have collected over the years that we can use for math. So things
20:03
that we have used that we either will use again or that I'm hanging on to for my youngest son to
20:11
use when he goes through math. So all of our math supplies and math manipulatives I kind of store
20:23
in here so I know where everything is and it's really easy for me to just come in, pull this tub
20:31
out, and grab what we might need. All right so I think that is about it. This is where, just like I
20:42
said, where I store kind of anything that doesn't fit in our kitchen or I don't have space for it
20:50
in our actual school room. It finds some kind of place in here. Okay so I think that is pretty much
20:57
it. That is the overview of our space that we use for homeschooling, where I store everything
21:05
and what that all looks like. So I hope that maybe just gave you some ideas of, you know
21:12
how you can store and organize everything. And I don't know, maybe you took something away from
21:18
that. But if not, you know, I hope you enjoy kind of seeing how we do things and what our setup is like
21:23
If you have any questions at all, please leave them in the comments below. I would love to hear
