Hey, you guys, welcome to week 22 of the homeschool prayer challenge. I'm Sarah, and throughout this
0:06
year, I hope you've been encouraged to start off each week with intentional prayer for your
0:11
homeschool, challenge to keep those lines of communication open between you and the Lord
0:16
throughout the day and really reflecting on how you are seeing God move in your life. This week
0:22
I've been thinking a lot about what I think about, how so often my thoughts can spin
0:29
out of control in the wrong direction and affect how I feel, how I treat my kids, and just the general
0:37
atmosphere of our homeschool. Let's chat today about what we can learn from 2 Corinthians 10.5
0:41
about taking every thought captive to obey Christ and how we can have joy in Christ when we walk
0:47
this out. So if you had to keep a list, how many negative thoughts will flood your mind today
0:56
during your homeschool. Now, I hope maybe that number is small, but I know that some days I feel like
1:02
I can't stop them from coming. I criticize myself for so many things, worry about all the lessons I've
1:08
planned that we aren't going to finish, or work that's not going to get done, and condemn myself
1:14
for being impatient with my kids. I doubt. I question my choices. I get frustrated with my family
1:20
And then when I'm done wallowing, what do I do? I think I simply need to try hard
1:26
and do more to fix all of these things I'm dwelling on. But all of these things that I try to do
1:31
my own strength to cure these negative thoughts are futile. Sure, they may work temporarily
1:37
but the negative thoughts always come back In 2 Corinthians chapter 10 Paul is teaching the Corinthians about spiritual warfare and how to fight rightly He wants this audience to realize that
1:49
they are walking according to the flesh and waging war like the world does, as they are trying
1:54
to undermine his authority as an apostle, which is causing division in the church. Paul sees himself
1:59
to be at war with the false teachers in Corinth, but that his weapons are spiritual and not like
2:05
those that the world uses to fight. And one of the things that stuck out to me is how the battle
2:10
begins with the mind. Paul talks about the actual spiritual weapons in the book of Ephesians
2:15
so I can imagine him using prayer and scripture here to capture the thoughts of his critics
2:20
destroying their arguments and wrong thinking, encouraging them in right thinking, and therefore leading them to obedience to Christ. The ultimate goal is obedience to Christ
2:30
And I know it might be a bit of a stretch. I think that when we use the verse, take every thought
2:35
captive. We often don't understand its original context, but I think that this passage does show us the
2:41
important impact our thoughts can have and what a stronghold wrong thoughts can have on our lives
2:47
to the point of them leading us to be disobedient to Christ. Here's an example from personal experience
2:52
So we use an online curriculum for math, and I try to be good about staying on top of things and
2:58
checking in each day. Well, one week, it was the end of the week before I logged into check progress. And
3:05
I realized that one of my children had not done any work for the past three days
3:10
although they had been telling me all of their math was done. Immediately, I had angry, frustrated thoughts before talking with my child or
3:20
understanding what was going on And I can say that the words that came out of my mouth were very God honoring I was mad and had my child made a bad choice Yes but so did I and how I reacted And it started with the
3:35
thoughts I had when I realized what they had done. And I acted on those thoughts in a worldly way
3:40
And I later regretted how I handled the entire situation. The battle begins with the mind. How
3:46
would this have ended differently if I had taken those thoughts captive? And by that, I mean
3:51
taken a moment to evaluate the thoughts I was having, compare them to the truth from the Lord
3:57
and then act accordingly. Colossians 312 is a good verse for a situation like this. It says
4:03
therefore is God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved. Clothe yourselves with compassion
4:09
kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. A discussion still needed to be had in the
4:16
situation needed to be dealt with, but I always have the choice whether to live by my flesh
4:22
or live out God's word. And this is true no matter what negative thoughts we have or what lies
4:29
we are believing that aren't of the Lord. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we are capable of
4:33
taking our thoughts captive. It will take work and intention, but we can do it with his help
4:39
We can choose to think of things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy
4:48
We can study the Bible so that more and more, our thoughts become more and more like gods
4:53
We can memorize scripture, especially scripture that will fight back against any recurring thoughts we have that are lies from the enemy
5:00
Negative thoughts will probably come this week but we can fight against them in the right way Let work on evaluating our thoughts taking them captive to the obedience of Christ and pray that he will help us live out the truth of His Word as we homeschool Let me pray
5:15
for us. Heavenly Father, so often as I go through the week, I allow my thoughts to dwell on lies
5:21
that are not from you. I let my thoughts affect my day and our homeschool atmosphere. So badly
5:27
I want to take these thoughts captive, release them to you and trade them for the truth you've given
5:32
me. I want to honor you with my thoughts and keep them pure, lovely, true, honorable, and obedient
5:39
Reveal to me this week the lies that I'm believing, the strongholds that are weighing me down
5:43
and show me how to be set free with the truth of Scripture. I'm so thankful that I do not have
5:49
to rely on weapons of this world to defeat the enemy. Thank you for loving me, for loving my family
5:54
and for making your divine power available when we trust in you. Help me to lean on you more and more
5:59
each day to trust you more and put you first in our homeschool. In Jesus name I pray, amen. Okay, friends
6:07
that's it for week 22. If you'd like a copy of this prayer to print out and hang up in your kitchen
6:11
or homeschool room or wherever you'll see it daily, head over to the prayer challenge dashboard to do
6:16
that. I'll leave a link in the description below. And if you're not already signed up, I'd love for you to
6:21
join in and make the really easy commitment to praying for your homeschool each week with us
6:26
prayer is how we personally communicate with God, how we express to him our trust in him
6:31
and have fellowship with Him. God is glorified through our prayer. So I hope you'll come back next
6:37
week to be encouraged to keep him at the center of your homeschooling and connected to him
6:42
through prayer. I will see you next time
