0:30
of a blog style video. I am going out of town this weekend with my family for another race
0:36
so I thought it would be fun to take you with me on this marathon journey as I cross another
0:41
state off my list. Today is also the first day of co-ops. So my kids and I are getting ready to
0:45
head out the door for co-op. I remember when we first started homeschooling and I heard about
0:52
co-ops and coming from a teaching background, I remember thinking what all these parents just get to
0:59
teach whatever class they want and that's that's okay they don't have teaching degrees
1:04
I had a lot to learn about homeschooling but we've been a part of this co-op for
1:08
about six years now and we really enjoy it. It's mainly enrichment classes so my
1:14
older kids do drama class. They are starting a Toy Story so they're gonna start
1:20
that today. They do Latin class which I teach to a small group of kids and then
1:25
they're doing J.A. BizTown again this semester. My preschooler is taking a tinkering class, a dinosaur-themed class, and then he also has a science, science experiment
1:36
theme class. So we are about to head out the door. Co-op takes about three hours out of our day for
1:41
the classes, and then about 40 minutes driving both ways, so 40 minutes total. So it is a good chunk
1:47
of our day. During the morning, we try to get a little bit of our schoolwork done, so we don't have
1:52
as much to do after we get back. So let me show you what they've done so far. So this is our
1:57
homeschool planet calendar and today is Thursday. So when we get back, I'm going to have to do a little
2:04
bit of preschool work with my youngest son. My kids got their BSF homework done already this morning. One of them
2:11
got their chores finished. I think, I'm not sure if the other two got it done and just didn't check it
2:15
off, but we're going to follow up on that. They have done CTC math this morning. I know my son
2:21
has worked on his language arts. Luke, did you finish your language arts? All right. So I'm going to
2:27
check that off for them. And I know my daughters were working on their language arts. We still are
2:32
going to have spelling to do when we get back. And I'm going to follow up with them just to double
2:37
check their work. They did some silent reading. When we get back, we will have music practice
2:43
science, and a little bit of my father's world to complete. And then afternoon chores. So this probably
2:50
will take us maybe about an hour total. So it won't be too bad to add on to our day after we get back
2:55
from co-op. All right, so I think that's it. My kids are really looking forward to going to our first day of
3:01
co-op this semester. We're going to head out the door. We just have a couple more things to pack up
3:05
We've got some snacks because everyone's usually really hungry afterwards. We'll go to co-op
3:09
We're going to stop by the library on our way home so we can pick up some DVDs and things for the
3:14
car ride this weekend And then we will get on with the rest of our day finish our school and then I will take you with us as we head out of town this weekend for my marathon
3:48
Okay, what a whirlwind of a day
4:07
Co-op went really well. We got most of our schoolwork done that we needed to get done
4:12
And we had Jimmy Johns for dinner because just needed something quick, something with no leftovers
4:18
And right now I am trying to pack and get ready for our quick trip
4:22
It is Thursday right now. We are leaving really early tomorrow to drive to where my race is going to be
4:27
We are just staying one night. The race is Saturday morning and then we are driving home that same day
4:33
So I don't have to pack too much. I'm just trying to get all my running gear together. The kids are packing
4:38
So hopefully everyone will get an early bedtime tonight and we can get out the door quickly in the morning
4:42
So here is what I am packing so far, trying to be organized to take for my marathon
4:48
the place that we are going is going to be cold. Typically during this race there is snow
4:55
but I don't think there's going to be any snow this weekend. However, I'm still always unsure of
5:00
what I'm actually going to want to wear. So I have some running tights in a long sleeve shirt
5:07
I'm also bringing shorts in a tank top and I'll throw a jacket in there too with some
5:14
compression socks. And if it's around 30, 40, it's questionable whether I will wear shorts. So around that temperature, shorts might be a yes
5:24
If it's colder than 30, I will probably stick with the tights and the long sleeves
5:30
As far as nutrition, I am bringing these electrolyte fast shoes. I sometimes cramp up really
5:38
badly near the end of the race, and these have helped a lot. So I love these. I'm bringing some
5:44
scratch gummies and I have some goo that I'm going to bring as well. I also have some sports beans. I have to
5:53
grab some of those. My shoes. These are my current running shoes. I've got the ultra brand. I kind of like
6:01
them. I'm not sure if I'm going to stick with them or not. They started to bug me the last race I wore
6:06
for. So they're on their tail end of the mileage. So we'll see what I get next time. If I try something
6:13
different or stick with them. I have my watch. It is way way too late. You can see what time it is
6:20
We need to get to bed really soon. And my earbuds, my running jacket, I have either a hat with my
6:29
ear warmers or just my regular hat. I don't know which one I'm going to want to wear. May or may not
6:34
need this depending on if I am wearing my jacket with pockets, but I've got Cliffbar, ear warmers
6:41
gloves I love these And then I just going to pack a backpack with clothes that I will change into after the race So after I run we will hang out for a little bit pile in the car probably stop at a gas station or a restaurant I will change my clothes and then we will head back home It is about a seven hour drive with no stops So with stops it going to be a little bit over that And we do have a time change We going from central to eastern
7:12
So hopefully we can all get packed up and we will be hitting the road early tomorrow morning
7:19
All right, we are on the road. We have been on the road for about an hour and 15 minutes
7:26
And we are already on our second bathroom stop for the kids
7:31
So we have a total of about seven hours to drive. I'm hoping that we will not have too many more stops
7:39
I know we always have a lot of stops. but that's what it's like traveling with four kids
7:43
So they are all settled in with some electronics, usually during our car trips
7:50
We have some little DVD players we bought years ago, and this is the only time that they are able to get them out and kind of use them
7:57
so they think that that's a lot of fun. So they will do that. They'll probably sleep a little bit
8:01
We'll stop about halfway in for lunch. And then when we get to..
8:06
Who would McDonald's for lunch? I don't know what we're going to do for lunch. maybe McDonald's. I'm not sure. We'll have to see. So when we get to our destination, we are going to
8:20
pick up my race packet first and then probably find some place to grab dinner and then head to
8:27
the hotel and then just stay in for the night. Tomorrow will be an early morning. We'll have the race
8:32
and then we will hop right back in the car and come home after that. All right, we made it to the hotel
8:46
We just finished having some pizza for dinner tonight and we're going to go down to the pool
8:53
The kids are going to swim for a little bit and then we're going to come back upstairs and get in
8:57
Early night. We also made it to pick up the rice packet
9:00
It wasn't really a packet. They had a sweatshirt, our bib number and some protein powder and biofree
9:08
So it was actually a pretty useful, a little bit of swag, but we are going to be doing 12 loops
9:15
of the course tomorrow. It's a very small race. There's only about 600 people running, I found out
9:22
So it should be a fine time. So we are off to swim and then heading to bed
9:26
All right, it's race morning and we're getting ready. And my youngest son, this weekend we let him pack for himself
9:37
He's very independent. He's five and we're just now realizing that this might have been a mistake, not checking him
9:45
He doesn't know how to match. Yeah. Oh, and there's a hole in the fan
9:50
So we're going to see how dirty his clothes are from yesterday and if he can re-wear those
9:57
So always check your five-year-old if you let them pack for themselves
10:01
Lesson learned. All right, we finished
11:12
You finished. Alright, I finished the race. My legs are killing me
11:17
But everybody was such a good support. It was great to see my family on the race
11:22
We are packed into the car. About ready to head home, probably stop and grab something to eat on the way home
11:29
Got about a six and a half drive, six and a half hour drive back
11:33
So legs are going to be hurting. We'll get out and stretch a couple of times. times, but I did it. Yay! All right, let's head home. Hey, you guys, we just got home. It is about
11:46
a little bit before 9 o'clock, and today's drive felt a lot longer. It always feels longer
11:52
coming home than it does getting to wherever we're going. Tomorrow will be a busy day of church
11:59
in the morning, and then as far as homeschool prep, I usually do a lot of that on Sundays. So
12:05
So I will be going through homeschool planet and double checking all of the assignments that everything is good to go for next week
12:13
I have math to kind of grade and I usually assign all the new lessons on Sunday night
12:19
So I'm going to be doing that tomorrow. My kids are pretty tired after a long day of traveling
12:24
We actually have a little bit more we need to do tonight, though
12:28
My son is really excited to put a piano together. We got an electric piano that actually came in while we were gone
12:35
So he's been really excited to do that all day. So we are probably going to open up the box, depending on how complicated it is
12:42
We might be putting together a piano tonight. But, and then hopefully getting to bed so we can get up early for church tomorrow
12:49
Thank you guys so much for coming with me this weekend. I hope you had a good time just seeing what it was like as we took this little trip for one of my marathons
