All right, so today my kids and I are going to JA Biztown
0:04
All semester long in our co-op, we have been doing the JA Biztown class
0:09
They have been learning about how to run a business, a lot of good real-life adults-type skills
0:17
So today, we're actually going to JA Biztown, and they're going to get to put these skills to the test
0:30
So if you have a chance to do a class like this with your homeschool co-op or you're looking for something fun to do, I definitely would recommend J.A. Biztown
0:46
It is a class that is fun by junior achievement. And basically we, well, I was just helping in the class
0:53
But the parent who led the class, she signed up our homeschool co-op
0:58
and they sent her all of the materials. They sent slideshows, workbooks, things like that to use as class materials
1:08
And the kids have been using those throughout this semester to learn things like how to balance a check account, run your bank account
1:19
how to present yourself during a job interview, how to apply for a loan
1:26
Like all these things, you know, customer service, how to do different business things
1:33
And today, like I said, we're going to be going to a local place, J.Bistown, where they have a little town set up
1:42
And they're going to actually get to practice working in these positions
1:46
They had to apply for job interviews. So my son, Luke, what's your position going to be
1:52
Personal banker. So Luke going to be a personal banker Emma is a CFO of a bank And Carly what is your position A business bank officer So there are lots of different little shops that are set up at this place
2:09
And we are going to be there with a few different groups, probably some other schools. And all the kids are going to be running this little town
2:17
So it's going to be a lot of fun. I've never been there before. So I'm really interested to see what it's like
2:22
and the kids have been excited about it all semester. So I'm going to take you with us and just show you what it's like
2:29
So if you have something like this in your area, you can decide if it's something that you want to try with your kids
4:53
All right, well, that was a fast-paced morning
5:04
We are done at J.A. Biztown, and we had a lot of fun. We were there for about five hours total, and you guys saw all the different little shops and jobs that the kids got to experience
5:18
Like I said, our class worked in the bank, and we also had Bismart where we had Bismarck where we
5:23
made slime and it was really neat to see how everything worked. I wasn't sure what to expect
5:29
but I volunteered in the Bismar and so when we got there, we had four of the students that were
5:35
working there. Our CFO had to immediately process the payroll, so pay the employees. They had to
5:43
they would constantly get bills come in through the computer and they had to pay the bills
5:49
The CFO had to give a report at the end of the day of the profit and loss and then the employees had to interact with the customers that came in they had to handle the transactions with the cash register and then actually make the slime The students took
6:04
different shifts, so there were three different groups and they would take breaks. So at different
6:08
points, different kids would be out taking their breaks and then the other ones would be working
6:12
in their little shops. And they really got to put into good practice what they've been learning
6:16
throughout the semester, just how to interact with customers, how to manage a business, how to
6:23
keep track of expenses, track product, profits, losses, and things like that. So we had a great time
6:30
So if you're interested in doing this with your homeschool co-op, I would really recommend it
6:35
We did it over one semester and our co-op just meets one time a week. And I will link the website
6:41
in the description below in case you're interested in looking into it. J.A. Biztown is recommended
6:46
for grades four through six. And you have, I think about 12 teacher-led sessions
6:53
prior to the simulation that we did today. And they've got locations all over the United States
6:58
So you might want to check their website and see if there's something close to you that you could look into
7:03
But if you don't, they do offer virtual simulations that you could do as a capstone project
7:11
So even if you don't have a junior achievement near you, you should look into this
7:15
I think it was a great experience for the kids. Everybody had a lot of fun. The students in our co-op already are saying that they want to go
7:23
back. They want to continue and do this again in the spring, which I think maybe we will
7:27
I hope you guys had a good time coming along with us just so you could get a glimpse of what
7:31
Jayavis Town was like and what our co-op did this semester. Please feel free to leave any questions
