New Year's Resolutions. It's that time of year. In this video, I'm going to share some of my goals for
0:05
2024 for my personal life as well as our homeschool. I'm hoping you'll be inspired or encouraged
0:30
magically changes when the clock hits midnight on December 31st, but I don't know. I think it's fun to
0:35
think of this blank canvas of the year in front of you and to be intentional about what you want
0:40
to accomplish that year. I am also just very goal-oriented. That's one of the reasons I like to sign up
0:45
for the races I run or different challenges because then I'm committed. It helps me stay focused when
0:51
I have tangible, measurable goals that I can set and work towards. And it's important to recognize
0:57
of course that there is only so much that I can control. It used to bum me out a lot when I missed
1:02
milestones and goals that I set, but I think the past few years have taught me that there are so many
1:08
twists and turns that life can take and you just never know how things are going to pan out
1:12
So while it's fun to set goals and work towards them, having that healthy realization that
1:16
God is sovereign and I can trust him with the outcome of anything I plan is really important
1:22
So that being said, I thought it would be fun to share some of my goals with you, some of the
1:26
things that I've been thinking about and maybe I'll give a little update once we get a couple
1:30
months into 2024. Okay, so I've got a couple of different categories of goals. So I will talk
1:36
about personal goals, family goals, work goals, and homeschool goals for the new year
1:41
First up is personal goals. Some of you might know that one of my long-term goals is to run a
1:47
marathon in each state. This year, I ran five marathons and we traveled to Oklahoma, Ohio, Utah
1:55
West Virginia and Hawaii. This year, my goal is to do four marathons, which will bring my total to 20 states
2:03
I have two of these races on the calendar already, so I need to figure out what the other two will be
2:07
and probably sign up for them, so I have that goal locked in and we can plan for that travel
2:13
All right, another goal I have is to read more for fun. I really do love to read, but honestly
2:19
since I've had kids, the majority of the books I read are nonfiction books or parenting
2:25
books or some kind of theology book depending on what we're studying at church
2:28
And I really like those. But it's been so long since I've actually read a book for fun
2:33
that was not something that I'm reading a lot of my kids, but just for me. And I would really
2:38
like to set a goal to read one fiction book a month Okay but this might sound strange I have no idea where to start I so out of the loop I don know what good what everyone else is reading right now where to find quality
2:51
book lists. Help right now. Can you please drop a comment with your favorite book that you have read
2:57
this year and help me kick off this goal? I would really appreciate it. All right, another personal
3:01
goal is to eat more fruits and veggies this year. Guys, I'm terrible at this. Exercise I've got down
3:07
but I could definitely improve a bit in the food department. I tend to eat
3:10
eat a lot of the same things every day and a lot of times it's convenient snacky things just because
3:15
it's easier with all the running around that we do and taking care of things for everybody else
3:20
I used to be great about having fresh fruit on hand all the time and making smoothies, things
3:26
like that, but that kind of thing is harder when you have four kids because if I make a smoothie
3:31
everyone wants one and it gets really expensive to be doing that every day
3:35
But I'm going to get better at it. I'm going to set the bar low on this one and say
3:40
I'm going to start by doing a chicken salad at least three times a week for lunch
3:45
And yeah, we're going to start there, maybe hat on from there and see how it goes
3:49
Finally, on the personal goals, this one is related to Bible study
3:53
A couple of years ago, my husband and I went through the Bible recap through, I think it's the Bible app
3:59
Maybe you version, I forget what it's called, but we loved it. It's such a great study
4:03
Well, we only got about halfway through the year because of some circumstances that we were going through
4:08
in, I regrettably stopped making a priority. So if you're looking for a great Bible reading plan
4:14
and study for the new year, I highly recommend this one. I will put a link in the description below
4:19
With this plan, you read through the Bible in chronological order, and there's a very short
4:24
podcast that you listen to every day that explains and really digs deep into what you've read
4:29
I learned a lot last time when we did it, and I'm really excited to get into this again
4:34
Okay, let's talk about a couple of family goals next. It's been about a year
4:38
since we have taken a family vacation aside from my race trips. So this year I want to plan a family
4:46
vacation. We did a really big vacation a couple of years ago. So I don't know where exactly will go
4:53
My kids have been constantly talking about wanting to go back to Great Wolf Lodge. So we'll see if we can
4:59
make that happen, but I want to make something happen this year. I also want to be intentional about
5:03
planning some sort of monthly family activity that we can all do together. This season
5:08
has been so nice because we've been able to spend some time together and do some fun things that we don't normally do regularly
5:15
We went bowling for my son's birthday, we went ice skating, we went roller skating, and each time I think, why don't we do this stuff more often
5:24
Well for one because it expensive for a family of six to pretty much do anything but I think I could make it work if I was intentional about planning something at least once a month for us to do So I mentioned we had
5:39
fun bowling and skating, but I'm thinking things like going to the movies, maybe an escape
5:44
room, which we love to do, and mini golfing, things like that will make the list. Finally, for family
5:50
goals, I want to have more regular date nights with my husband. We recently got back from our
5:55
Hawaii trip and it was great we just had the best time just hanging out spending time together
6:01
and that is definitely something that can be neglected when we were back in our regular
6:05
routines and I don't want to let that slide so at least once a month we will have a date
6:12
night for just the two of us okay on to work goals I don't know how many of you are work
6:18
from home moms but it can be really tricky balancing work and homeschool now I don't
6:24
have a very typical job. I run a homeschool t-shirt shop online and I run a few blogs, including
6:31
blessed homeschool. And I absolutely love what I do, which does make it even harder to balance
6:37
I want to be better at realizing that I can't get everything done that I absolutely want to
6:42
And that's okay. But there are a couple of goals that I'm setting that I want to work
6:46
towards specifically this year. First up is this YouTube channel. I started this channel in May of
6:52
23, very reluctantly, I might add. My husband had been trying to convince me for years that with
6:58
the blog, I needed to get on the YouTube bandwagon and I firmly resisted. But come to find out
7:04
I actually really love doing this. I love the connections I've made. I love being able to share
7:09
some of our favorite homeschool resources on this platform and hopefully encourage people along the way
7:15
So my goal this year is to reach 5,000 subscribers on my channel in 2024
7:22
and you guys can help me with this. I would be so appreciated if you share my channel with your
7:26
friends, especially if there's a video that's been helpful to you. And I do want to say thank
7:31
you to if you continue to watch, like, and share my videos. It really means a lot. For my shirt
7:37
company, homeschool style co, I really need to work on some new designs, get them listed in the shop
7:44
I'd like to launch at least one new collection this year. I really go in spurts with this where
7:50
I'll have a flare up of creativity and just crank a bunch out and then it kind of dies down
7:54
So sometime this year it will happen. Not sure when, but my goal is to be getting at least 10 new designs out this year
8:02
And finally, I've got my homeschool prayer challenge that I'm running, which is a big goal of
8:06
mine to stay consistent with and make sure I've got content for you guys each week if you're
8:10
joining in. If you have not joined the prayer challenge yet go watch my video on my New Year homeschool resolution to see what that all about and i will put a link in the description below so you can sign up it free to join in
8:23
and it's going to be a lot of fun last but not least my homeschooling goals so we are on track
8:28
to hit our homeschool hours that are required of us by the state of Missouri so i'm really
8:33
happy about that i use homeschool hall to track those hours and those state requirements and
8:38
it makes it so easy to see where we are with those. My goal is to actually finish all of our
8:45
hours and requirements by mid-May so we can be done tracking and either be done with all of our
8:50
curriculum by then or be able to just relax a little bit more as we finish out the year. For science
8:55
we're going to be trying out a new curriculum and I'm really excited to see where it goes
9:00
If you're curious, definitely check out the unboxing video I just did, but we are going to be using
9:05
sunlight science e. I have not been a. with science in the past, especially when it comes to experiments, and I know my kids really
9:13
like them. So my goal is to actually keep up with this curriculum and see it through to the end
9:18
the semester. Art is another subject that I want to be more intentional about. I love the curriculum
9:23
that we have. We used it a lot last year, but unfortunately, this has been the first thing to go each
9:29
week when life just gets too busy. And we sadly have not finished any art projects this year
9:34
So my goal is to finish at least two of them by the end of the school year
9:38
Finally, this is maybe going to sound silly, but I want to take my kids to the library with me at least once a month to pick out books that they want to read
9:47
I typically have been assigning them books for school, either from our book basket list or from their literature curriculum, but they haven't been picking out many of their own books recently
9:57
And we used to be really great about going to the library and doing this. So I'm going to get this on my calendar and make a purpose to do so this year
10:05
And it will maybe help me with my reading goal too, I hope. Okay, so there are all the goals that I've been thinking about for 2024. What I think I'm going to do is, while these are all fresh in my mind, plan some of this stuff out in my planner, and I'll also be making a few notes on my Google calendar. That will help me set things in stone. And I know that when I plan out my goals, write them down, it's more likely to happen. I would love to hear from you in the comments below. So share one of your goals with me or share something that resonated with you as you watch this video. I'm excited for the upcoming
10:38
I'm also excited for the next couple of months as we head into the curriculum buying season and prepping for the next school year
10:45
I've already purchased some of our curriculum, which I'll be sharing with you in a few weeks
10:49
